Suggestion for someone with interest and time to do it: Put a date against each event in @selectedwisdom's excellent compilation of CI warning signs. With those dates, we can better assess when 'critical mass' may have been reached for initiation of a formal CI investigation.
For example, how much was on the table by mid-Mar. '17, when Comey briefed Sens. Grassley, Feinstein, Warner & Schumer (and turned them 'ashen faced') ? Was there already a CI investigation by then ? If so, when did it begin (had to pre-date that mtg substantially).
My focus is what I think will become a key question: What did IC know, and when did they know it ? Is the NYT correct that the CI investigation was opened 'after Comey was fired' (May 9, 2017) ? I don't think so, and think it's a purposeful obfuscation of the true start date.
