As I've noted a number of times, I don't honestly care if cannabis is legalized or not. I can't stand to be anywhere near the smell of it, but I don't mind if other people use the drug for recreation. I *DO* think it should be legal for legit medical purposes.

That said...

...I spent part of my military career hunting drug smugglers. One of the things being part of that operation taught me was the War on Drugs is a travesty. A joke. A utter failure in every fashion. It's corrupted at every level, no one involved can be trusted in any fashion.

2/
The War Drugs has become a self-licking ice cream cone, its entire existence exists to continue its existence. The worst thing that could happen to every agency involved is an end to it, because the money is unreal.

3/
The people who perpetuate the War on Drugs don't even know why they are doing it. They're not making America safer. They're certainly NOT hindering the availability of drugs in ANY fashion whatsoever. But it doesn't matter, it has become its own reason for existing.

4/
There's no organization. There's no chain of command. There's no plan. There is no way to measure progress -- or failure. There are dozens of agencies all competing for money and prestige. All compromised by drug money, by greed, by power, by utter incompetence.

5/
Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw a progress report from the Drug Enforcement Agency?

You think you're winning? The war's over, drugs won.

6/
I don't know if this is good or bad.

People want drugs. They want to get high. And if they want it, they're going to get it, no matter the consequences.

Prohibition SHOULD have taught America this. But, we never learn.

7/
We should have found a better way to deal with this by now.

But, we never learn.

Why? Well, look at where this thread started. When you have conservative dimwits like Matt Gaetz in charge of the war, well, this is what you get.

Every time.
