Right. All this whining adds up to the reality that lots and lots of white kids commit racist and sexist and homophobic acts and never feel bad about them.
I am from Springfield, Oregon. My senior year of high school, spring of 92, my town passed an anti-gay ordinance that was the trial run for the Colorado measure that passed that fall and the Oregon one that narrowly failed.
Seeing my friends turn into raging homophobes was incredibly depressing and radicalizing.
And no doubt I probably said stupid shit too from time to time, but at least I opposed that horrible ballot measure.
Teens will be teens is just an excuse for violent white supremacy, misogyny, and homophobia that gets passed generation to generation—very much including among Democratic voters. It is rarely confronted.
And when it is confronted, even liberal whites turn into outraged Brett Kavanaugh.
Even when I blog about the structural racism of white people sending their kids to the "good" schools, asking liberal white commenters that make up the @lefarkins commenters to confront their own privilege leads to full Kavanaughism outrage. It's revolting.
What these kids did today in confronting that Native man is an aggressive manifestation of the sickness that is white supremacy, but the disease exists in every single white person. Racism in a continuum and no one is immune. It has to be fought daily.
And, yes, that obviously includes myself.
