The sun's golden light filters through the jali or marble latticed screen of the Humayun's tomb [1569-72] weaving a geometrical interplay of light & shadows. The tomb is dedicated to Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi, India. Designed by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas.

As the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, Humāyūn’s Tomb was a seminal landmark in the development of Mughal architecture [1569-72], inspiring later structures like the Taj Mahal.
On January 24 1556, Emperor Humayun was descending his library's staircase with several books when the muezzin announced the call to prayer. As he tried to kneel, he caught his foot in his robe, tumbling down the steps, he died three days later from his injuries.
This image detail of Mughal emperor Humayun sitting beneath a tree in his garden in India comes from an album commissioned by the 5th Mughal emperor Shah Jahan [1592-1666] famous for the Taj Mahal, which he built out of love for his wife, the empress Mumtaz Mahal. [1]
The great Mexican poet Octavio Paz wrote this wonderful poem 'The Mausoleum of Humayun', calling it "la arquitectura del silencio"
Octavio Paz wrote this poem while serving as the Mexican ambassador to India [1962-68], the poem was included in his book Ladera Este [Eastern Slope] [1]

In Islamic Art, Shamsa [from shams or sun] is a sunburst of rays in rosette form decorating architecture & illuminated manuscripts.

Shamsa [sunburst] bearing the name & titles of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan (r 1628–58]-illuminated page-India Ink, opaque watercolor, gold on paper.
The reason Shah Jahan's name is inscribed at the center of the shamsa is because symbolically his name will be infused with that power emanating from that centerless center, the celestial axis from which all things turn, above and below [1]
