I'm sure I mentioned this before but after reading an article about @SenSanders, it made me want to talk about this again, perhaps from a different focus. As much as we know policy means everything, it's often hard to connect with people using it.
People are often emotionally driven. That means to connect with them, you have to make them feel something. This is where the battleground is. There's 2 strong emotions that drive people: fear and hope.
Fear drives people to run or fight against something because of negative thoughts of change. That's why conservative messaging works so well: it's a well thought out emotional barrage of fear porn. Unfortunately, Democrats also use this against us as well.
They often try to convince us to fight against something or someone (Trump and the GOP being examples). That's where the #Resistance comes from: fear of what conservatives might do. The problem is fear never gets you anything: it only gets you to push back.
That's why progressives must fight using hope instead of fear. Hope is the antithesis of fear: it's an positive reaction to present and future change. Our messaging must inspire people to work for positive change. That's how we push progressive policy forward!
