We are working our way through the Die Hard movies again, which, btw, is fucking joyous. 2 obviously much worse than 1. However: the terrorist plan does actually make sense in 2. I'm not sure it does in 1.
So they use the explosives to get in the safe. Knick the bonds. Then herd the hostages to the roof. What is the plan then? To blow up the building? With or without the hostages?
If with, they're going to put them all on helicopters which weren't provided and then do what? Take them to LAX and start negotiating again?
Seems unwise to negotiate from the airport, because they're not in control of the area. And how does blowing up the building help?
It's not like triggering-Article-50-level stupid, but it still seems like poor strategy.
Also I am a lot of fun to watch movies with fuck you.

It is as pitiful a proposal as I've seen for some time. It's the same old max-fac bullshit, with some deeply idiotic Art 24 GATT spaff-off, mixed into a horrific pile of contradictory sludge.
They're not intending to lengthen transition. They're shortening it. That is not an alternate backstop. It's a future trade agreement based on technology which does not exist.

So May is now whipping her MPs to undermine her own deal. And looks set to lose anyway.
And the Labour leadership looks set to deny support to an amendment which does exactly what it demanded the prime minister do last week.
This is a historic period of failure for politicians. I've never seen such a shower in my fucking life.

For those who aren’t quite sure why these media layoffs keep happening, or think “it’s the internet!” or “people don’t pay to subscribe,” there’s a lot more going on. Though that is part of that. Here’s a cliffs notes version - not exhaustive but it hits the highlights:
1. What is considered The Golden Age of Newspapers ended around the late ‘80s. Subscriptions began dropping in the ‘70s year over year, but not enough to show cracks.
Newspapers spent most of the 20th century consolidating into chains, but in the latter half of the century they became part of conglomerates and were publicly traded. Profit margins for companies like Gannett and Knight Ridder were commonly around 30-40%.

One of the biggest problems people have in understanding twitter's hatemonger population in general is that people on the outside of a situation keep looking at posts divorced from context.

Like, yeah, if you look at any one single tweet in total isolation, it reads like some
clueless onlooker just stumbled blindly into an ongoing conversation and is asking basic questions (or framing bad information as questions- "but don't kittens drink blood?") and not anything to worry about.

But... that's intentional, well-practiced camouflage. You shout hateful
garbage at people all day, every day, most of them are going to block you/report it immediately. You notice what sort of posts don't get blocked, or clear the automated scan for hate speech when reported, and you model your future attacks off that.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."
