In case you missed it, or need another reminder, on @DeadlineWH today, @steveschmidtSES, as he rolled out the same shibboleths Conservatives have been using for 60 years against Liberals, revealed what we should never forget about never-Trumpers like him or
@charliesykes or @radiofreeTom or @TheRickWilson, or @MaxBoot . They blame Hillary (not Russia, or voter suppression, or misogny) for tRUmp's winning, not the GOP, not "Conservative Values".
They object not to tRUmp's policies - except for his obeisance to Putin - but to his personality, to his ignorance, to his crudity, to his rejecting decades of GOP racist dog whistles and just letting the xenophobia, bigotry, misogny, racism out in the open.
Boot, in #TheCorrosionOfConservatism does an admirable job tracing the roots of racism in the GOP. But he never takes the next step. He never asks himself why the GOP, and not the Dems, welcomed racists into the Party,
used dog whistles to get them and keep them because then he would have to question his Conservative "values", not the meaningless talking points of "small government, personal liberty, individual responsibility", but what they mean in practice and neither he nor any of the other
never-Trumpers want to do that, think it necessary to do that. They never ask themselves when & why their Conservatism ceased to be that of a Teddy Roosevelt, or Ike or even Nixon (absent the criminality and racism) and if it is a good thing.
