I wrote: The GOP, the party of industry and equality, split into two factions: The conservative pro-Industry part and liberal pro-labor part.

I didn't mention the name of the person who headed the pro-labor faction. . .

Yes, the pro-labor Republican leader was Teddy Roosevelt.

When the Republican Party turned conservative (pro-industry) he ran as an independent in a party called "The Progressive Party . . .

(3/3) . . . the Republican Party abandoned all the ideals represented Abraham Lincoln, and he could not longer (in good conscience) call himself a Republican.

(Thread) Victimhood, Trump & oligarchy

Hi Tamara, I wouldn’t say we already had oligarchy before Trump.

Timothy Snyder more accurately said that we’re “tipping toward a regime change.” It hasn't happened (yet).

For perspective: if successful, it'll be our 3rd oligarchy.
1/ (Oligarchy=a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes)

Our first oligarchy was slavery.
Our second was the age of robber barons before the New Deal. (Among other things, the New Deal strengthened a middle class).
2/ The US was founded as a liberal democracy. (I’m using that word on purpose)


But we didn’t come close to liberal democracy until Brown v. Board (ruling segregation illegal) ushered in the Civil Rights movement, which paved the way for women’s rights.

Hi, Craig,

Well, okay.

Maybe it isn’t obvious that a desire to sweep away regulations and gun rights and “entitlements” is authoritarian.

So I’ll explain.

Let’s start with regulations.
1/ Regulations are anti-authoritarian, because regulations say that everyone lives under the same rules. This is also known as rule of law. You can’t have rule of law without laws. Regulations = laws.

Authoritarians want to sweep away existing rules so their word becomes law.
2/ This is often done by means of a cult of leadership, as explained👇

The leader says “I alone can solve our nation’s problems!”

The followers believe (or pretend to believe) that the leader’s instincts are superior to the logic of the ruling elites.

1. #GOP strategists have chosen to make Pelosi the central theme of their opposition attacks. Distancing from or denouncing Pelosi is a strategy to effectively neuter that attack. Lamb was successful with this - others are taking note.

2. It’s our practice at @DemsWork4USA to strategically support Democratic candidates with the best chance of winning in November. We don’t endorse based on litmus tests, alliances or at the behest of the official party. It’s our job to understand the political strategies in play.
3. Some of our candidates are employing the strategy described above. Given the nature of GOP attacks, it is a tactic that likely will see some efficacy. That said, we want to be clear that as an organization we do support Leader Pelosi.

Why I'm No Longer a Conservative

This will be where I add on reasons that I left the Republican party and abandoned the party of conservatives.

There was no single moment, but rather a series of events that brought me to where I am today. (1)
As time goes on, I will likely add to this thread to explain why I left the Republican party & why I no longer believe what I used to believe just 3 years ago.

You are part of this story too, because you share truths that woke me, & others like me, up to reality. (2)
I started as an Independent, but I mostly found that I aligned myself with Republicans on most issues, particularly with regards to economics, healthcare and the military. I didn't agree with them on other issues, however, like gay rights and separation of church & state. (3)
