Also, I love how the publicist must have told him to change the "went up and down" with a "cosh" looking for a "black bastard" to was "hoping to be approached by a Black man" so he "could unleash physical violence."
Let's also note that he ASKED the friend whether the person who raped her was Black. He says, yeah, well I asked other things about his physical appearance. Not the same dude.

If this is the standard, I'm gonna file $$$ million lawsuits on behalf of my teenage clients whose names & mug shots are plastered across newspapers w/ zero consideration as to whether they're guilty of a crime, often when they're not even charged w/ one.

And not just mug shots, newspapers will publish photos of my teenager clients captured from store or subway video surveillance, people's cell phones etc.

All in the context of criminal investigations. All highly prejudicial.
But when kids are arrested and it is their mug shots that get printed in the newspaper, this is more devastating than anything, because nothing more clearly connotes criminality.

But someone who is arrested and charged with a crime is guilty of nothing.

Unbelievable.

If one of my clients did this, they would be immediately arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat.
Oh yeah and incarcerated, because being charged with a new offense is a violation of one's bail conditions.
Oh and hey, there's also that little matter of the gag order.

It's ironic that Australia has no Bill of Rights, but criminal defendants are probably afforded more protections and receive fairer treatment there than they do in the US, where the rights guaranteed criminal defendants under the Constitution are considered sacrosanct.
Not that the Australian criminal justice system is any sort of model - Aboriginal Australians are vastly over-represented. They are some 30% of the jail/prison population, yet make up under 5% of the population.
And the juvenile justice system is horrific. 63% of young people incarcerated in Australia are Aboriginal.

First things first. So I’ve been raped.

It sucked. I would not choose to repeat that experience. It made me quite angry, justifiably.

You know what never occurred to me? Um....Attacking someone with the same skin color as my rapist.

AND I WAS THE ONE WHO ACTUALLY GOT RAPED.
Post-rape, I was - as one tends to be - pretty pissed off about the remarkably unpleasant and extremely traumatic experience.

Did I experience heightened distrust of men, generally? Yes. I absolutely did. Did I want to murder all of them? No.

Why? THEY DIDN’T ALL RAPE ME.

Thread: Of course Mark Zuckerberg is callow and grandiose, & there was lots of other bad judgment at FB; but it's astonishing how quickly we've turned this into a question of moral judgment & character. 1/6
He was celebrated up til now for complying with the premises of the age: (1) maximizing return on investment was the best thing an individual could do for the world--doing good by doing well; & (2) whatever happened in the "connected" marketplace of ideas could only be good. 2/6
Of course I'm all for expecting people to exercise better moral & political judgment in how they run institutions. But there's collective responsibility here for having allowed the Masters of the Universe to ignore such things, & praising them for their empire-building. 3/6

Yeah... it’s kinda the worst to refer someone for a job only to get feedback that they, um, couldn’t name recent books + any the publisher has published 😭😩

Never give anyone an easy reason to say no!
There are like some *really* basic things you should know going into an interview:

Who is interviewing you. Call or email and find out.
...You need to know who they are, their role within the company, and books they’ve edited, etc.
The company. Not just their name (Obvi) but you need to know things like is this particular imprint trying to grow a certain area? Is it an area you have skills in?

Unpopular opinion: it’s OK if you don’t have those specific skills. You need to know that BEFORE the interview
