Iron Man was Paramount/Marvel?

(Starting an MCU rewatch now)
MySpace!
We deserved a West Coast Avengers based out of that mansion.
The whole origin sequence is fairly problematic, tbh.
Agent Phil Coulson with a mouthful.
The Dude rides a Segway.
More slapstick than I remembered through the creation of the Mark II sequence
Jarvis drops a line about visiting other planets.
Original recipe Rhodey has to settle for a "next time, baby."
Gold-Titanium Alloy Man
Iron Man was a lot more inconsistent than I remember, but TBF, it's not regular in my rotation.* Bridges' performance has some real menace that gets glossed over in the best villains convo.

*(#TeamCap)
"Who the hell are you?"
The Incredible Hulk.

Universal/Marvel/Valhalla
Origin story taken care of during the opening credits.
I'm actually not sure I've seen this beginning to end in one sitting. First watch was a scratched up library DVD.
Computer screen text chatting isn't really a compelling conversation to me now, but I think I liked it before.
I like the favela chase sequence though.
Green eyes!
Bottling plant battle is sweet.
The Banner/Betsy Ross reunion sequence is kinda boring.
General Ross is a dick.
This Hulk seems more restrained than rage.

I love the Blonsky story thread so far.
Ragey that is.
Stretchy purple pants tho
We're still pre-smartphones, as a blackberry phone gets prominent placement.
And a digital camera as a separate device.
I love the Tim Blake Nelson Sterns and am still annoyed we never got his version of The Leader.
Police car as boxing gloves is interesting.
Not enough super-leaping.
Post-credits scene presented before the credits with General Ross and Tony Stark.

"Who's we?"
Starting Iron Man 2 tonight, but tbh I'm only 50/50 at best to finish it tonight.
Still Paramount/Marvel in association with Fairview. Even got "A Jon Favreau film"
Tony Stark calls himself a Phoenix while the X in Stark Expo is highlighted in yellow.
Should have added a 🤔
Rhodey Mark II appears!
Natalie Rushman with the sweet takedown
Elon Musk cameo. 🤷🏼‍♂️
There's a lot of ridiculousness in the Gran Prix Monaco sequence
I miss Garry Shandling.
Tony has four suits on display when Rhodey says they wanted to roll tanks to get them.
I basically forgot about the whole arc reactor is killing Tony storyline
Iron Man vs War Machine wouldn't have wrecked the mansion if the West Coast Avengers were stationed there
Alright. Bedtime. We'll continue this at a later date
A lot of foundation laid here when Fury and Stark discuss Howard Stark's history with SHIELD. Stuff that pays off for a while.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Sam Rockwell's gloriously sold out performance as Justin Hammer.
Super shady treatment of that Captain America shield mockup. #TeamCap
Happy and "Natalie" infiltrate Hammer Inc. is hilarious.
The big fights at the end were sweet, but I don't like how two of them were both in the fake nature pavilion.
So Amazon Prime Video makes it difficult to ff thru credits to see the stinger.

AC/DC at least.
Mjolnir time!
Thor. Paramount/Marvel 2011
After a sweet science peeps cold open we get a Marvel X LOTR style history lesson
Comes out strong with a lot of Kirby style influence in the scenery and costumes.
Hemsworth actually comes out strong as charming but brash
The Asgard/Jotunheim act is so much more stylish than anything we've seen so far.
There's a whole alternate MCU where SHIELD are straight up the bad guys right?
(Or, the Hydra infiltration is really just that much more plausible)
Yay Hawkeye!
Not yet worthy.
Loki is such a snake. Well written and well played.
This score is pretty good, and the first one I've noticed one way or the other.
Thor was never high on my list or in my rotation, but that was pretty good.
Sweet Stinger involving the tesseract and totally setting up the Avengers.
Captain America: The First Avenger

Paramount/Marvel.
I did not mean to have such a long gap.
Sweet Hydra hood ornament.
Many direct connections to Thor in the Norway scene.

Also the sweet shade toward Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Trash can lid shield seem kind of corny now, but I was hyped back in the day.
Expo. Stark. Original Human Torch. Modern Marvels. Definite fan service.
Agent Carter. Yay!
Tommy Lee Jones plays the hell out of the Colonel Phillips role.
Steve Rogers uses his local knowledge to run down a taxi is great. Leads to another gratuitous shield substitute tho.
Is that the first official Hail Hydra?
Oh yeah, I buy your Hydra loyalty Dr. Zola.
Introducing Captain Propaganda.
For real, though, I love the musical number.
It will be a while before you encounter Dr. Zola again, Cap.

Straight to Steve/Bucky OTP reunion.
Or the next scene for Cap/Zola
The Red Skull revealed!
Cliffhanger dramatic jump.
This music is great.
The music in general, but Triumphant Return prompted the tweet. open.spotify.com/track/6lDdSbI5…
"I'd like to surrender myself for disciplinary action."
Legit lol at Stan Lee's line.
Wilhelm scream Bucky works for me as tragic.
I had forgotten about how much Cap on a motorcycle there was in this film.
I know I mentioned the hood ornament at the beginning, but the Hydra convertible is totally sweet overall.
This plane flight has a lot of clever choreography.
Ok I lied Peggy Carter x Steve Rogers are my OTP.
The modem day NYC scene is a great way to finish.
#TeamCap forever
I would say my biggest beef with this film is its where the franchise turned the asethetic hard to backlots and soundstages.* My favorite part of watching the older Phase One films was how visually interesting they were.

*Not yet Atlanta for life yet, per imdb
This Blu-ray rolls the Stinger straight into a preview.
The Avengers!

Marvel/Paramount. Let's wrap phase one.
A couple highlights re: The Avengers from my TL:
Seriously the MCU's culmination here was what is was all about for me.
"Sir! Please put down the spear."
Loki comes on strong here, it's great to hit the ground running w/o having to worry about an origin story.

Barton's turn is unfortunate because we haven't spent much time with him, but in some ways it's true to his origin after all.
"What do we do?"

TITLE CARD!
LG flip phones really set the time period.

Natasha steals my boy Piotr Rasputin's line.
Banner 3.0.
"Stand down"
Fwiw I'm actively not just posting quotes but that's what my last 2-3 notions were.
Fury cashes his bet.
The eyeball extraction is well screened but still plays like a horror shot.
We get a suited up Cap to Iron Man to Thor bam bam bam.
"There's only one God, ma'am. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that."
I don't know how intentional it was, but watching them back to back, the armored SHIELD agents do echo the armored Hydra agents from CA:TFA.
Hulk roars and Loki smiles.
The fight on the heli-carrier was exciting enough that I didn't have a tweet for it.
Any landing you can walk away from, I guess...
We're approaching the moment...
My bad, we're saving civilians and directing cops first.
Puny god
Roll credits.

Thanos smile.

More creds with Pop rock

Shawarma
Idk if I had less commentary on account of this being the one I've seen the most or because there are long stretches that are fight scenes so there's not much to say. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Iron Man 3

Marvel/Paramount

(Yeah it's late, but I napped today and have some extra laundry keeping me up)
1999 scene set with "Blue"
Omg the hairstyles
Extremis name drop
Mark 42 suit intro is a hot mess. (As is Tony.)

Leads straight to the first Mandarin video.

Then "Iron Patriot"
Pepper used to work with Aldrich Killian. I don't recall if that gets readdressed.
Jon Favreau killing it as Happy this go round.

Really selling the Christmas factor at this point
Downey is pretty good in this suddenly vulnerable scene
MCU does CSI
The Stark mansion is not a safe place.
Stark: You walked right into this one: I've dated hotter chicks than you.

Brandt: [scoffs] Is that all you've got? A cheap trick and a cheesy one-liner?

Stark: Sweetheart, that could be the name of my autobiography.
WARMACHINEROX
I forget basically every time that Maya Hansen is up to no good.
Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery during the big reveal is insane/awesome.
I've made my last laundry switch and we're at Killian's monologue.
Oh. That's why I forget about Maya.
So much of the partial/damaged suit stuff she's to be an excuse for Downey to stunt perform with his face showing. (Which is ok with me)
Plane rescue is sweet.
House Party Protocol in effect!
Pepper saves the day! Yay!
Still bent about no West Coast Avengers
Very sweet closing credits which include stills from previous movies.
Stinger is a fun play on the film's framing device.
Thor: the Dark World

Marvel Studios

(finally)
LOTR style narrative war history opened.
Liking this Brian Tyler music already. Meant to mention that the IM3 music stuck with me too.
Holy crap. Chris O'Dowd.
(I'm not sure I've ever watched this beyond seeing it in the theater)
I realize it's probably an artifact of watching them back to back but there's a lot of FX overlap between Extremis and the Aether.

I guess I'm assuming there's no intentional connection.
Odin has no time at all for Midgard mortals
Getting some direct infinity stones hints here.
Hey, Heimdall got an action moment.
Frigga kicks ass for a minute then gets fridged.
Dr. Erik Selvig has had a heck of a storyline through 2.5 of these movies.
Listen to your friends, Thor. Anything but dealing with Loki.
Too late.
Holy shit Evans is great as Loki-Cap
"So, who's Richard?"

"Really!?!"
This movie had lots of slow bits, but the big action sequence at the end was really cool. Clever twist at the end.
I now have more sympathy for those who thought The Warriors Three were done wrong in Thor: Ragnarok.
The Collector!
Final stingers are very cute.
If not for the Marvel of it all, there's probably a very cool space fantasy war movie in there somewhere. Some of my favorite bits were the space ship fights.
Twist the knobs a little bit and you get Asgardians vs Dark Eldar in a far future where there is only war.
(Ah-ha! Evidence I've watched the Blu-ray at least once! I've seen the All hail the king One shot before)
(The One-shots are technically outside the scope of this rewatch but Brad Whitford in Agent Carter and Scoot McNairy here!?!)
Captain America: the Winter Soldier

Marvel Studios
"On your left."
"Berlin Wall (Up & Down)" is what always spikes for me on Cap's list.
Cap's ship incursion is surprisingly brutal.
Natasha's plot on the ship is pretty sweet. She's also so disappointed she let Steve down.
It should be no surprise that I'm #TeamCap over Fury when it comes to project insight.
Smithsonian scene is a great recap as well as world building.
I hope that last one doesn't break the thread
Is it wrong that the fact /ROBERT REDFORD/ did a Marvel movie still blows mind?
Fury carjacked, presented by Chevy
The leaping and crashing from the first chase after the Winter Soldier is a good low key way to show how super Captain America really is.
We have reached one of my all-time favorite MCU scenes.

"Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?"
"It kind of feels personal"
FTR, Agent Sitwell, *I* am tweeting about "this guy"
Alright, "the council" is the worst part of SHIELD related matters
Nat & Steve, engaged mall rats is a fun look
Zola on a computer screen may be for the die hards, but it's great.
(Fading too fast. Will have to pick back up tomorrow)
Pierce killing Renata is a little gratuitous, but I suppose it establishes how bad guy he is if you weren't convinced by him meeting with TWS and calling for hits on Cap and BW
Jasper Sitwell x Senator Stern a couple of Hydra dicks.
Who's the valedictorian from Iowa City?
(Yeah yeah LMGTFY)
Sitwell, we hardly knew ya.

(Although no official body found iirc)
Black Widow and Falcon actually contribute quite a bit in that big fight with the Winter Soldier.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" plays as super sad to me.
The Winter Soldier reset scene is like the reverse of Steve Rogers getting the Super Soldier Serum. He's being made worse instead of better.
Again I don't have much to say during the big battle at the end. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Obvious iPhone.
Status quo changes. Hooks for more movies. #TeamCap forever.
Strucker and the Maximoff twins! That's a mid-credits teaser!
The Winter Soldier reads about Sgt. Barnes.
Guardians of the Galaxy

Earth 1988

Casette Sony Walkman. (I Definitely had something close.)

Wyatt Oleff is pretty good as young Peter in a tough scene.
Marvel Studios presents

A James Gunn film*

26 years later

*Pleased he's back btw
Opening cast credits is unusual I think for MCU.
A dodge and a leap that may be supposed to indicate he's more than human?
Definitely a big Jerk, tho
(Although there are already many connections to make, I won't be commenting on Captain Marvel yet)
Intro to Rocket and Groot is strong
I love this three way fight.
I don't know if the Nova Corps was under sold here or if I didn't get it because I haven't read too much of them until recently.
Quick origin stories line up still great
Gamora is very capable of taking care of herself even when every one is after her
I love the prison break too. I taken tonight how when they breach the control room we get an ascending theme but it leads quickly to a great quick humorous dialog
I know the soundtrack selections get all so of love but Tyler Bates is doing good score work again.
These are not trustworthy people
Would Thanos have really destroyed Xandar for Ronan? Or would he really just do the 50% reduction and called it destroyed?
Del Toro's turn as the Collector is gloriously bizarre. Plus, he lays down some serious Infinity Stones exposition.
Carina, we hardly knew ya.
"You're making me beat up grass!"
"It's barely a concept."
Groot light show on the Dark Aster.
So much of this movie had been bright and colorful, so the darkness and subdued colors on the Dark Aster really stand out.
Yomdu gets his bad ass moment.
After Ronan shakes off the big blast, Rocket goes A-wing vs. Executor.
Groot is full of surprises.

We are Groot.
Ronan goes with an ill-advised monologue giving our protagonists time to turn the tables.
The deliver to dad/jackass bit plays a bit like a post credits scene.
Shouts to John C. Reilly as Corpsman/Denarian Dey ftr
Awesome Mix VOL 2!
Still unadressed Howard the Duck appearance.
Avengers: Age of Ultron

Marvel Studios
Good guys coming in hot.
Thor comes up with a plan and Cap agrees to it. Then nice team up move with Mjolnir off Shield
This is one I watch less often than the others but I straight forgot Strucker had a Chitauri Leviathan
Tony takes the scepter then

TITLE CARD
Planning revels because the Chitauri and Hydra are both finished. Victory! Success!
Still perturbed Ultron ends up a Stark/Banner creation especially since Pym in in the MCU now. (also how blind they are to its similarity to Insight)
Ultron vs Jarvis is kind of ridiculous but the voice acting is still solid.
For those who want to read into things...a conversation that is supposed to cover for why Pepper and Jane aren't present leads straight to one revealing Falcon's hunt for the missing Bucky
The lifting the hammer attempts is still awesome.
Tony: But that up there, that's the ENDGAME. How were you guys planning on beating that?
Steve: Together.
Tony: We'll lose.
Steve: Then we'll do that together too
Oh yeah. Crimson Cowl reference for the die hards.
And "Invaders create Avengers"
Klaue/Wakanda/Vibranium
Barton actually gets over by being the one not to succumb to Wanda.
But we get OTP Steve x Peggy at least
Hulk vs Hulk buster is neat but gratuitous.
Barton family safe house time
(Alright. I'm nodding off so I'll have to finish later. May be days tho
Ok, where was I?)
The PS4 remembered.
The chase for the cradle is actually pretty fun and is also the obligatory Asia set piece.
Face turn for the Romanoffs.
Jarvis back.
Avengers: Civil War 1/2
Vision!

"Stark is right"
"Definitely the end times"
Callback to Mjolnir-worthy.
Dammit I mixed up Maximoffs/Romanoff back there
Yay Nat X Bruce!

: push:
Barton motivational speech.

Has an affect.
Rescue complete. Big poster fight.
Gratuitous slow mo even
Idk if he did much motion capture but Spader's performance really stands out in a movie that's overstuffed in many ways
Dammit Whedon
Obtw, technically a very mysterious death for Ultron.
Saw it first elsewhere, but it's epic bs that Falcon, a para-rescue was unavailable for Sokovia.
Huge tease with "Avengers, a..."
FTR from end credits

Marvel Studios presents

A Joss Whedon film
Thanos. Gauntlet. "Do it myself"
Oh yeah, no true post credits scene. (Sometimes the disc/stream/tv messes with the placement)
Ant-Man

(honestly watched first 10 minutes last night, what a cool little start)

Marvel Studios
1989 SHIELD to San Quentin farewell ceremony to meet Luis to Daughter to take care of to Baskin Robbins (they always find out) to meeting the new crew/recap exploits to Hank Pym returns to Pym tech
"How's your face?"
The tank (153) is in the freaking SHIELD film.
Cross makes fun of "Ant-Man" and "Tales to Astonish"
Then we get the Yellowjacket commercial.
First Luis story
Burglary at Hank Pym's has a goodix of well prepared and using what's on site while thinking on his feet
*good mix
"Who's to blame for Sokovia" headline
(Alright I gotta start these earlier. Until next time...)
Cross executes a successful live test.
Hank Pym is not a fan of Tony Stark nor the Avengers
Training montage!
Mixed with heist planning.
Last mission of the Wasp revealed in a truly touching scene prematurely interrupted by Scott
Ant-Man vs the Falcon at Avengers base.
Major nit-pick, but it's not great that Falcon and Ant-Man have the same color scheme.
Expanding the team!
Let the heist begin!
Lots of good teamwork for the good guys once the situation escalated.
And there's a tank!
"It was never just a heist" to Yellowjacket deployed.
Briefcase battle to Disintegration (briefly)
I love the wide angle shots of the battle on the Thomas the Tank Engine table
The Yellowjacket takedown is actually kind of brutal.
Let's wrap with a Luis story.
That new Wasp suit is sweet.
Second Stinger really runs straight into Civil War. #TeamCap
Captain America: Civil War
1991. The year I graduated HS and started learning Russian as a UA freshman.

The Winter Soldier was being brainwashed.
Marvel Studios

Lagos

Present Day

#TeamCap
Rumlow/Crossbones with the level up

I love Falcon's new power stunts (Drone, wings as shield)
"His name is Redwing." 😎
Alfre Woodard, one of the few with multiple MCU roles.

Very confrontational here.
Intro to Wakanda via news coverage.
Casual wear Vision.
Secretary Ross gives the Avengers destruction rundown and introduces the Sokovia Accords.
Zero went to Cleveland to recover a Winter Soldier red book.
"uncharacteristicly non-hyperverbal"
RIP Agent Peggy Carter.

😭
Introducing Prince T'Challa.
Natasha can't convince anyone to stand down.
Sharon Carter is definitely #TeamCap tho
The amount of time passage is hard to determine from the bombing to the chase
Bucky says he's not going to kill anyone but he hits a bunch of them really hard. (Cinder block, battering ran, his own mechanical fist)
The Black Panther enters the fight!
The MCU loves a motorcycle ride.
Audi appears to have paid a few bucks for this movie.
Nice scene between Vision and Scarlet Witch turns pretty tense.
Everett Ross is a total dick when we first meet him.
Zemo infiltration of the task force and everything around it is tense and awesome.
The awesome continues with Bucky's fighting escape to Cap taking out a helicopter bare handed.
We're now back to the Ant-Man stinger.
"I'm not the only Winter Soldier"
Sony deciding to play ball with Marvel Studios was a bfd and did untold wonders for the franchise imo.

(Queens to intro the Parkers)
Hawkeye vs Vision: no contest

Vision vs Scarlet Witch: also no contest
Steve Rogers kisses Sharon Carter as his other true loves look on.
The Airport battle! #TeamCap
So many twists and turns after the fight.
Zemo seems low key and ineffective but he did successfully break up the Avengers for a few years.
Black Panther does a legit noble thing.
"I could do this all day."
Tony Stank
That was great. My ranking for this has been very wrong. This will probably be the biggest mover once the rewatch is over.
Bucky goes on ice in Wakanda.
"Let them try."
Been a while since I mentioned the music, but this is another one where it seems worth it to mention Henry Jackman's score.
Steve from Brooklyn hit Peter Parker, but Pete got a few good licks in.
Doctor Strange

A decapitation is a violent start.
I am very down with the Wizard-Monks of the MCU.
On the nose music choice with many shots of Strange's hands.
He's a trivia-dick arrogant know-it-all.
Watches are becoming a motif almost as big as hands.
(This break is brought to you by necessary grocery run I knew about and should have taken care before starting)
Fancy car. Reckless driver.

Moral of the story: Don't look at x-rays and drive.
TBF, this part of the origin story is going by at a quick pace.
Prominent Microsoft Surface placement.
Stephen rejects Christine.
Pangborn SZN!

(Shouts to the Watch pod/Chris Ryan)
Protagonist getting an alley beat down is unusual for a super hero flick.

But he gets saved by a future rival which is usual.
"Forget everything thing you think you know." leads to misdirections galore.
💫☄️🎇Let's get weird🌈💥🌛
Shamballa as the Wi-Fi password still makes me laugh.
Don't mess with a librarian, Strange.
Very Wheel of Time "surrender to gain control" magic lesson.
MCU magic items are called relics and have fancy names.
The beginning of the end when Strange messes with The Eye of Agamotto (aka the Time Stone)
I really like the vfx/sfx of the spells and reality warping.
Daniel is Daniel Drumm and he goes out like a punk? That's some bullshit.
Saved by the cape, but the cape has its own agenda.
"Specks in an indifferent universe" feels like it's been used before and will be again in the MCU
Astral hospital fight is very cool. Dr. Palmer is great.
She deserves better than she got in this movie.
Mirror Dimension New York is sweet too
The Ancient One uses her dying moments to give Strange a pep talk.
Ok. Honk Kong battle is kinda meh, and "Dormammu, I've come to bargain" takes a couple rounds to get going, but it works for me when all is said and done.
Strange puts his last broken watch on his wrist with his broken hands in the New York Sanctum.

Roll credits.
Mid-credits sets up for Thor: Ragnarok (is part of, really)
Final: Mordo's enforcing a new set of rules for magic.
(Poor Pangborn)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Missouri
Earth
1980
Sweet Mustang, fun song
Is that weird pod thing really beautiful, Meredith Quill?
34 years later...
I asked before if a full set of opening credits was unusual for MCU, and my observation now is that they are rare. But we get them again here.

Further, I love the focus on Baby Groot as the main fight starts.
Pretty sure Lake Shore Drive being in this movie is what put it into my regular rotation.
Is the threat of a Xandarian prison really that big for Nebula? They aren't that secure, as far as we know.
The drone pilot video game arena is cool.
Ego finds Peter, after all these years.
Contraxia the vice planet as the location for some Ravagers internal politics.
Drax claims Peter and Yondu look exactly alike.
Gamora is very insightful with "if he ends up evil, we'll just kill him."
The Chain might be just a little too on the nose for the team splits up scene.
Framed as a very humorous scene, we get the full rundown on Mantis' powers and what she does for Ego.
Ravagers are bad at math.
Kraglin finally turns on Yondu.
But Nebula takes advantage.
Don't get me wrong, I love the soundtrack but "My Sweet Lord" for the tour of Ego's planet is a little extra as well.
Diorama flashback is a cool alternative exposition mode.
Nebula/Taserface's Ravagers are out of control.
Sweet monologue, Nebula
Peter Quill level up
Very early the Kree are dicks line: Yondu was a Kree battle /slave/ for 20 years.
The abuse of Baby Groot hits hard despite being played for laughs.
However, Groot retrieves the prototype fin scene is laugh out loud funny.
Yondu retakes the ship is awesome.
Baby Groot's revenge
Three straight "family" convos:

Peter/Gamora
Gamora/Nebula (punctuated by a huge fight)
Ego/Peter
Ego begins his heel turn and the women find the progeny skeletons.
The dark side of diorama flashbacks.
Does Ego get away with his Expansion plan if doesn't reveal that he set up Meredith's death?
I was going to complain about the Brandy song resets as being on the nose too, but now I feel I was properly set up for them.
I'm going to have to do another one of these where I just track all the names and creatures Rocket is referred to as.
Big final battle just went three-way when the Sovereign shows up.
I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!
Big group shot.
"You shouldn't have killed my mom and squished my Walkman."

The Chain reset works here too, after all.
Peter Quill level drain
Yondu saves Peter.
(Definite Christ imagery)
Father and Son for the Ravager funeral works for me too.
Kraglin learns the magic arrow.
Mid-credits brings together alternate/original Guardians
Ayesha reveals she's created "Adam"
Teen Groot!
The Watchers ditch Stan Lee.
Spider-man: Homecoming

Sony
Columbia
Adrian Toomes and company are cleaning up the streets of New York after the Chitauri invasion only to be interrupted by the Feds/Stark
Eight years later. They seem to have a good set up now.

And a winged suit.
Now we get the Marvel Studios card with orchestral Spider-man theme.
Peter Parker's home movie flashback of the Civil War airport battle.
Stark internship weekend
Nice Midtown Science and Tech day-in-the-life culminating in Martin Starr as academic decathlon advisor.
"Avengers" bank robbery

Spider-man finally meets Thor and Hulk
Captain America Fitness Challenge
From gym class to suburban party. This really is a high school movie.
Donald Glover is not trying to shoot people back in time.

That top is definitely Shocker's colors especially with that fist.
A much more destructive version of Bueller running through the back yards, and in case you didn't get it they put it on a big screen
The Vulture takes out Spider-man but he is rescued my Iron Man (Drone)
Be a "friendly neighborhood Spider-man"
That vulture jacket is perfect.
"Triskelion Cleanup" on temporary highway sign.
Training Wheels Protocol
I keep hearing Suit Lady as Julie.

Both Damage Control and the Vulture operation are developed slowly but deliberately.
Midtown wins without Peter.

(Is this where I should lodge my complaint about Peter Parker and Peter Quill both being so prominent)
Tour guide vs Suit Lady (now Karen) regarding danger level of failed elevator.
"How can you show your spider spirit?"
Captain America detention video.
Baby monitor protocol
Karen really wants to Instant Kill someone.
Arms deal break up to Battle on the Ferry.
To Ferry split in half
Semi-obligatory Christ imagery
Vulture looks to escalate. Mason is very excited to finish the high altitude seal.
Kenneth Choi with a dual role as principal Morita here. Has picture of Howling Commando father(?) on wall in office.
The big twist revealed!
Man this car ride is tense.
This Spider-man would lose a crap ton of Karma in the TSR Marvel rpg on account of breaking personal commitments.
Ned finally gets to be the guy in the chair.
Spider-man strength level up
A whole new way to hijack a plane.
I know I often go silent during these final set pieces, but they're often just spectacle.
Peter still saves Adrian.
How about some OpSec Happy?
Pepper back!
Aunt May with a WTF
Mid-credits: Adrian denies knowing Spider-man's ID to Mac Gargan.
Captain America on patience.

(Still funny #TeamCap)
Thor: Ragnarok

Story time from a chained up Thor
Surtur's monologue interrupted by Thor's spinning.
A little bit too much telling not enough showing until we get to the Immigrant Song.
Introducing Skurge.

(Karl Urban has an infinite future at fan conventions if he wants it, right? Star Trek, LOTR, Marvel.)
Semi-obligatory Christ imagery. Loki statue to heroic Loki play.

Hopkins kills as Loki-Odin.
The visit with Dr. Strange is amusing.
The music in the Norway scene is remarkably moody.

Odin gives the Hela exposition then becomes stardust.
Hela appears, makes demands and wrecks Mjolnir like it's nothing.
2/3 of the Warriors Three get Worfed to show Hela's evil.
Thor lands on a trash planet after getting kicked out of the Bifrost transfer.
Introducing drunk Valkyrie
3/3 warriors down. Hela is an Amazing physical combatant.
Theme park dark ride intro to Sakaar and the Grandmaster.
Kirby mooks and wall art setting the scene here.
Hela revealing the true history mural is actually very cool.
As is her necromancy.
Thor with a new look for the Contest of Champions.
I love all the Hulk paraphernalia in the stands.

Thor tries sun going down move
Thor level up!

That was a great fight. Grandmaster sucks to finish it early.
Heimdall lives and he has the sword. A secret hideout too
Thor is right that he truly won the fight.

However, Hulk tricking Thor into the force field is hilarious.
Thor's escape is sweet, (the self-own to start is amusing especially.)

The synth based soundtrack here is awesome.
"Point Break" to Banner's return is a roller coaster of emotions.
The Hela vs the Valkyries memory is beautiful in a way.
The Revengers have come together.

The Banner x Valkyrie banter is fun.
"Get help" is a classic
Seriously, the Mark Mothersbaugh score is great.

Fun spaceship battle really adds to the cosmic adventure quotient
There is a lot of convenient timing for the plot of this movie.
Thor loses an eye to Banner splat to Hulk grab to "your savior is here" (yep, arms outstretched and all)
Final Odin vision has a lot for a brief scene:

God of Hammers?
This could be Asgard
No, you're stronger
Rerun that Led Zeppelin and wreck shop, good guys.
Revengers decide to cause Ragnarok.

Skurge face turn.
Asgard deleted.

(Yeah, yeah it's not a place, it's a people)
Poster shot.
Thor picks Earth over second star to the right. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Mid-credits: Thor and Loki discuss whether a return to Earth is wise and a big ass space ship appears.
The Grandmaster is a glorious dick claiming success in the revolution against him (and Goldblum played the hell out of him.)
I liked a lot of individual performances and presentations but there was also a general sense of discord for me. The parts were better than the whole, IMO.
Black Panther

(Another 7 day layoff and I won't finish in time. Also need to figure out what to do about Captain Marvel)
"Papa tell me a story" is a good way to exposition dump.
1992. My Freshman to Sophomore year of college and last year I wasn't a father. (To connect my life to this scene's setting.)
Tables turned on N'Jobu leading to the abandonment of is Erik is a hot way to start.
Present Day shortly after the Civil War bombing.
Vibranium sand table would be awesome for rpgs and war games.
Aerial tour of Wakanda.
Killmonger and Klaue museum heist.

"Nah, I'm just feelin it."
The coronation scene is so visually glorious.
I've seen this move a handful of times already and I still held my breath wondering if M'Baku would yield.
Remember when we were all worried that Black Panther was going to reveal that the Soul Stone was in Wakanda?
As we get the intro to the Ancestral plane it makes me think one of the most impressive feats of this movie is just how much it introduced to the MCU and didn't detract from the main story.
Shuri as Q scene is so fun.

I had to look up what "what are those!" was all about when I first saw it.
Semi-obligatory Asian scene
Agent Ross does not know what a fair deal is.
Three way conflicts really sing in these movies.
This car chase is next level.
Tolkien white guys interrogation scene is fun.
Another(!) broken white boy to fix.
I'm finally starting to sympathize with those who are disappointed in T'Challa for not securing Klaue.
Killmonger is gratuitously evil with extra murders in case you really want to think he has a "Point."
Shuri with a little Technology not Magic healing brag.
Killmonger is trained to "commit assassinations and overthrow governments." Eyes on the ball, people.
Great contrast from original coronation battle to the Killmonger x T'Challa. Now: dark skies, minimal audience
Killmonger knows lots of things, but not how comic book deaths work. #spoileralert
Neither do Okoye or Nakia, apparently.

They discuss warriors vs spies, and I feel that there may be threads there to watch next time.
Oakland apartment with wild ancestral land beyond in windows is awesome.
(Wife call pause)

The whole Jabariland sequence is fascinating.
Then we get to big ending battle where I usually say little.
But charging armored rhinos is worth mentioning.
The Jabari arrive, Ross succeeds, W'Kabi surrenders.
T'Challa strikes true.
Killmonger gets to see one Wakandan sunset.
Wakanda gonna outreach starting in Oakland.

Roll credits
Mid-credits: Wakanda back at the UN. Nation of farmers?
End credits: the White Wolf wakes up in Wakanda.
Avengers: Infinity War
Thanos has Ebony Mae do his monologue for him
*Maw

Spoke to soon tho
Loki is duplicitous to the end*

Hulk gets worfed to put Thanos over.

*?
Infinity Gauntlet quest completion 2/6
RIP many Asgardians
Banner enters the Sanctum Sanctorum from above.

Title Card
Wong with Strange get the stones exposition for this film.
"hitherto undreamt of"
I love Ebony Maw. Great intro to a new villain. (Yeah I know)
Strange captured. Spider-man power up. Space adventure begins.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in SPACE.
I love the Guardians first encounter with Thor.
Young lovers in SCOTLAND.
Vision says it's been two years. Since Civil War?
40 minutes in and Captain America arrives!!!

#TeamCap forever
The whole Scotland sequence was sweet.
Gamora origin flashback.
Gamora actually has a good plan.

Hard to tell if Drax was there all along or not.
The Collector is not so gloriously weird when he's under Thanos' boot.
Infinity Gauntlet quest completion 3/6.
Quill tries to do the right thing and fails.
Avengers reunion. Couple years reference again.
There's an Ant-Man and a Spider-man???
The White Wolf gets a sweet new arm.
Parker and his "really old movies"
Maw, we hardly knew ya.
Stark casting aspersions on someone else's moral compass.

Parker becomes an official Avenger.
Thanos and Gamora have a discussion in a gaslight throne room.
*gaslit
Disassembled Nebula is a super cool visual.
Thanos tortures his daughters in case y'all were sympathizing with him.
Rocket/Thor talk is actually touching.

"It better be some hammer"
NIDAVELLIR has the best twist in the whole movie with Peter Dinklage as a giant Dwarf.
Crash landing on TITAN for the New Yorkers leads to a battle with Guardians.
Lol "not that good looking, needed saving." (Quill re: Thor)
MFin Red Skull!!!
(Laundry break)

Resuming on VORMIR.
Gamora gets a great speech, but really reads the situation wrong.

(Although I buy her argument. Thanos doesn't truly have love in his heart, IMO)
Great score here. WTG Alan Silvestri.
The Avengers invade Wakanda.
Steve x Bucky reunion!
Thanos' forces attack!
Oh yeah. Forgot:

Infinity Gauntlet quest completion 4/6.
The battle in Wakanda is well and truly epic.
The forging of Stormbreaker still takes my breath away.

Then the arrival + Avengers theme. Woo-hoo!
Quill fails to control his emotions. And they legit almost had the gauntlet off!!!!
I like the "She's not alone" battle.
Infinity Gauntlet quest completion 5/6
Thanos arrives in Wakanda.
Thanos is not messing around at this point.
Wanda did it!

Quest failed!

Rewind just a few seconds tho...

Infinity Gauntlet quest complete! 6/6
You should have gone for the head

SNAP
Thanos wins

Roll credits.

I struggled with the ending on first watch and am still not 100% on board. I hope to get complete closure next weekend.
Post-credits: Hill/Fury and a desperate pager call.
Ant-Man and the Wasp

(Full disclosure: actually watched this immediately following last Ant-Man rewatch because my wife wanted to watch it then. Not sure how it will affect what I'm doing here.)
Last mission of the Wasp extended version with Hank Pym voice-over.
Let's rescue Janet.

MARVEL STUD10S
Scott Lang works at being a good dad.

(This movie is about Fathers and Daughters)
He turned his house into a theme park dark ride.
This flick is also two years after Civil War.

Agent Woo's explanation to Cassie is actually a decent recap/exposition.
Quantum realm dream becomes Janet flashback.
TBF, Scott was legitimately kidnapped, if the legal issue really came to a head.
Scott is still #TeamCap. Hope is not.
Hank and Hope have a lot of anger towards Scott, but he's their only lead.
So far there's a lot of humor here which is well needed after Infinity War.
Introducing the Wasp!
Wings and blasters.
X-Con Security Consultants. Fun chatter.

Really tho, they wasted no time introducing two separate antagonists. Burch and Ghost.
I really hope Fishburne gets to do more with Bill Foster in the MCU.
Elementary school heist combined with the glitchy new suit.
"If I had, you'd have never been caught."
Elias Starr is a sweet Marvel deep cut as part of the Ghost origin flashback.
Bill/Ava makes for another Father/Daughter pair.

More evidence for the "Maybe SHIELD was all bad after all" here as well.
Goggins is great in this role btw.
I am still amused about the truth serum debate.

Especially, since it leads to a Luis recap.
I like that the second entanglement is played mostly for laughs.
Btw, great score yet again. This time Christophe Beck.
"Time and Space work very differently down here."
Cassie is no snitch.
Cassie would be a great partner.
Seriously tho, this chase/battle is exciting and complex.
Seagulls vs Ants is an unexpected battle dimension.
Bad-ass Janet saves Hank.
New building on the waterfront.
Idk if it's still a debate, but count me as someone who sees a city in a bubble as they leave the quantum realm.
Hope saves Scott.
Scott saves Hope but probably could have helped Ava too. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Janet's healing hands fixes Ava, apparently.
"It is truth serum!"
Scott Lang gets away with it and is a free man again.

X-con business is booming too.
Hot Wheels drive-in is a perfect ending.
Mid-credits: Scott goes sub-atomic and we tie to Infinity War ending.
Post credits: Giant ant plays the drums and we get a "Ant-Man and the Wasp will return?"
I am no longer planning to re-watch Captain Marvel before I see #AvengersEndgame tomorrow morning. #DontSpoilTheEndgame
