The latest 'lunchtime trade agreement' from the usual suspects - the term now used in honour of @Lorand_Bartels who demonstrated how quickly you could draw up a trade agreement if nobody cared about the content 1/ competere.co.uk/uk-eu-fta
It comes with a picture that looks impressive, which I think is supposed to say why trade agreements are better than converging regulations - but I'm not immediately convinced 2/
There's 339 pages of text, I clearly haven't read it all, but from what I've skimmed 95% is dull and routine stuff, 5% real substance. But I did note a US approach to Geographical Indications and regulatory cooperation... 3/
Essentially this draft trade agreement does not answer any useful question, it's a pointless distraction. The question for the UK and EU will be what we realistically want from our future relationship, and what can we achieve - and that takes a lot of effort 4/ end
