As phrased this Labour letter on Brexit appears to be deliverable. "A UK say on future EU trade deals" is not a high bar and "shared institutions" on single market = single market institutions theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
Previous experience suggests a Labour unicorn hunt will restart by lunchtime at the latest.
Already a number of questions along the lines of "really?" Yes. Turkey has a Customs Union with some single market alignment, so it isn't too much of a stretch from that, without freedom of movement, and a bit of customs union enhancement
Problem for the PM is that her deal is de facto the same as Labour but without any formal say in the hope a future backstop solution turns up.
To be even clearer - from what I have heard I do not think the Labour proposal will come as any surprise to those in the Commission working on Brexit.
And the PM's nightmare now - quite possible - is that she will have to choose between no-deal and a permanent customs union. And she cannot...

I think we have learnt a lot about the PM's approach to Brexit this week - it is her deal, she has no great interest in changing any of it, and will go to the last week if necessary to get it through Parliament - my latest analysis linkedin.com/pulse/pm-going…
As @TomMcTague reports similarly, Conservatives who oppose no-deal in the Cabinet are unsure what to do about this situation, but are unlikely to make any moves this month politico.eu/article/theres…
And so we wait, business counts the cost, individuals continue to worry, and party tensions rise. Even if the PM eventually gets her way there will be a price to pay in the form of an unloved deal. But it is hard to see any realistic alternatives emerging.

The question that should be asked to the PM / Cabinet - given that there is now no prospect of a revised agreement until the end of the month earliest how is it fair to business to insist we leave at the end of March? There isn't enough time

Officially UK is NOT joining a customs union....but in the absence of unicorns we clearly are.

Either via the Backstop or when its clear 'other arrangements' dont exist to fix the Irish border /2
Unfortunately May never had the courage to confront her Brexiteers over this fact. She fudged in Lancaster House, and kept fudging.

Recall this time last year, as the Irish reality dawned, senior peeps like @DLidington were flying kites on this.

1. One recurrent feature of modern media is that it is only ever capable of dealing with one story at a time and according to its own priorities and values. The big story, had we a remotely adult media, should have been the Commission's no deal contingency plans. #Brexit thread.
2. Instead we're getting endless blether about Corbyn. There's been some coverage of the Commission's plans but the media now thinks that story is done and dusted. It is now old news, and they won't revisit it until after Christmas, if at all.
3. Without adequate scrutiny it will simply pass into the ERG armory of deceptions, whereby they will use to to claim we can have a "managed no deal". This is masterful propaganda - turning a negative into a positive.

2) Today, Tory Fibs, a leading Labour commentator put out a summary of the Labour Brexit position. Other than a Veto on EU trade deals & no controls on state aid it reflects the position put forward by all Labour spokespeople

3) the last people to talk about Single Market "access" were Johnson, Gove & the Vote Leave campaign. It was used to lie to people, to pretend that we could get the same benefits inside as well as outside the EU

1. The UK can get most of what it wants by agreeing to the EEA. It creates a stable framework which can be introduced in stages as each country specific protocol takes effect, creating space for continual negotiations - allowing us an independent trade policy almost immediately.
2. The first priority is to deal with the administrative act of leaving the EU. Subsequent issues can be refine and negotiated precisely because the EEA is an adaptive framework. The issues can be ironed out over time. It;s better than a perma-transition vassal state.
3. The EEA would provide a great deal of legal certainty for business, ensuring that the regulatory environment for trade remains intact - allowing them to remain in the UK and resume their investment plans.

1. This is a particularly boring thread but if this doesn't make the point about a no deal #Brexit then nothing will. It relates to an obscure story in the @FarmersGuardian last August and a blunder by the EU Commission.
2. The European Commission failed to re-authorise the Red Tractor assurance scheme, along with four different schemes from other member states, despite the application for re-approval being lodged six months prior.
3. The unexplained gaffe meant farmers whose grain was destined for the biofuels market were been left in the lurch, with some having to fork out for interim storage. No paperwork or tick in a box equals no trade. That's how the system works.
