1/ After much debate and anticipation, the #GreenNewDeal is here.

Here’s what you should know about the sweeping proposal to fight climate change 👇
2/ The Green New Deal is an ambitious plan to make the US carbon neutral by 2030 and turn the country into a global leader in renewable energy in the process.

Rep. @AOC has made the GND her top priority. She and @SenMarkey, a fellow Democrat, introduced the resolution Thursday.
3/ The GND’s goals — achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, creating jobs in the sustainability field, securing clean air and water — are broadly popular. It seeks to achieve these goals through investment in industry and infrastructure projects.
4/ The projects — things like decarbonizing electricity, transportation, and industry, restoring ecosystems, upgrading buildings and electricity grids — are necessary and sensible (if also extremely ambitious). bit.ly/2GtttiS
5/ Politically, the Green New Deal is fundamentally about making climate change a central Democratic priority in 2020 — without shoving aside health care and the economy.
6/ While Democrats have talked about climate change as an important issue for some time, there has been little urgency in Congress to take action. The Green New Deal could mark a shift. bit.ly/2taFUYQ
7/ The resolution also smartly avoids a few fights — postponed in an effort to keep the coalition behind a GND as broad and inclusive as possible.

Things could get tense. Here’s what to expect:
2/ First: Dems will almost certainly grill Barr on his opinions about Robert Mueller’s investigation.

That isn't true. Here are 7 facts to help you understand what’s happening at the border.
2/ In historical context, illegal border crossings are way down. Border Patrol apprehensions are at the lowest they’ve been since the 1970s.

The difference now is we’re seeing unprecedented numbers of children and families crossing the border.
3/ A 2017 report estimated that children and families made up less than 2% of border crossers between 2003 and 2008. For the past few months, they’ve made up more than half of all apprehensions.

First, there's much to like about the #GreenNewDeal. But also much that could be better. An ideal climate policy:
a) Makes a meaningful impact.
b) Addresses problems the market isn't addressing itself.
c) Is cost-effective.
d) Is actually passable.

Let's start with impact. 2/
The common wisdom on how climate policies have impact is wrong. Politicians think that a country's climate policy is about reducing that same country's emissions. Nope. The most effective climate policies reduce *global* emissions, or at least provide tools to do so. 3/

It’s the Green New Deal, not the New Green Deal, though.

The sustainability part is *meant* to be a framing device and rationale for the social programs. Maybe it’s overambitious and fuzzy or impractical in some areas, but isn’t that how major legislative campaigns always begin?
Regarding paying for the #GreenNewDeal: Tax carbon. Tax the rich. Take an equity bite out of startups that the program invests in. There‘ll need to be rightsizing, but it’s not more improbable to make work than was the first New Deal, which cost about 1% of our GDP over 8 years.
The cost for the combined programs has been pegged at $40 trillion. But $32 trillion of that is Medicare For All, which if we carve off, leaves $8 trillion for the core GND (including job guarantees, student loan forgiveness, free college, paid leave & Social Security expansion).

1. Green New Deal (GND) -- the most malodorous and putrid bombast of flatulence ever to have come out of sitting members of Congress. It's not a bill or a resolution. It's a sick parody compiled by a bunch of clueless and degenerate minds.
2. Allow me to show you what it says the government will provide in 10 years -- basically everything under the sun, but the best part is it will also provide economic security for anyone 'unwilling' to work. How frigging delicious is that!
3. Lest you think they didn't think of how to fund it. They did. It will be funded by Federal Reserve through Quantitative Easing.

I think there is an easier way to achieve all the goals even faster (of course the Left will get around to it in good time): Eliminate all people.

Today, @AOC & @EdMarkey released a Congressional Resolution calling for a #GreenNewDeal, "a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse emissions and create economic prosperity for all." My take...

I commend @AOC, @EdMarkey & #GreenNewDeal co-sponsors for putting the urgent need to confront #climatechange with an ambitious clean energy mobilization on the top of the political agenda. This is an urgent threat. Confronting it is a real opportunity for economic renewal.

The Socialist Party was winning elections in early 1900s and proved a strong opponent to the Dems & GOP, especially when combined with unions and strikes. I believe an independent party is needed yet again.
The Socialist Party was on track to become a major party in US politics until many anti-war socialist and union leaders were jailed during the World Wars (in particular, horrible laws like Sedition Act of 1918).
More or less, the final nail in the coffin was FDR's New Deal, which was largely based on demands from the Socialist Party platform. It was a compromise to "save capitalism", in FDR's words -- keep capitalism by creating a social safety net to reduce tensions.
