We were talking about “Frontrunners” just last night...how gays all over the country titled running clubs, signaling to each other by using the “code” of “Frontrunners.”

Patricia Nell Warren made it possible for thousands of #lgbt people to find each other outside the bar scene.
Frontrunners the 1974 book was revolutionary.
Gay running clubs took off around the US and the world.
Folks could slide in, run, meet other queers, with little exposure and deeper cover than going to a gay bar.

RIP Patricia Nell Warren
Frontrunners 1984.
“Front Runner” told the story of gay life and love in the 1970’s, when a closeted coach falls for an openly gay Olympic hopeful runner.

Worth reading to understand where we were and how it was. amazon.com/Front-Runner-P…
Twenty years after Patricia Nell Warren’s book... Frontrunners clubs were listed in towns all over the world.

Watermark Newspaper, June 1995.

My collection.
The cover was scandalous.
