Measles scares the crap out of me. When I went on an international trip a couple of years ago, my doc tried to look up my vaccination records. For some reason, I wasn’t in the database. My only proof was the handwritten vaccination card my mom still had. 1/
Just to be safe (and since it was odd that l wasn’t in the database at all), I got tested for immunity to a bunch of illnesses. I was immune to everything except measles. There’s no way of knowing why. Either the vaccine didn’t work on me or it wore off. 2/
So I got another vaccine for measles. I asked if I could test for immunity again, but my doctor said it wasn’t really worth it. If the vaccine didn’t work again, there wasn’t really much else I could do. It would just be for my mental well-being to know. 3/
Plus, my insurance did not pay for the immunity tests and I’d have to pay out of pocket a second time. So I might be relying on herd immunity. I’ll probably never know if I’m immune, unless I get measles. Then I guess I’d know? 4/
Anyway, the thought that I could walk into a room that someone with measles was in TWO hours ago and I might have a 90% of catching it, is pretty terrifying. 5/
I don’t want to think about measles doom clouds hanging in the aisles of the grocery stores, so please get vaccinated against measles. I just wanna pick up some oranges and coffee creamer in peace. 6/6
