Northern Virginia needs talent. It's critical to maintaining competitiveness. This should go without saying, but our diversion of resources away from talent cultivation makes me scratch my head.

What can we do? For one idea, read this thread.

We live in a tech corridor. That requires people to code, program, secure, and manage.

Our local colleges need support to create a capable workforce. My tech clients - many in NoVA - have complained for years about how hard it is to fill their slots.

That's a failure on our leadership's part.

We can create more affiliations between private companies and institutes of higher education.

Why? A little-known fact is that such partnerships allow the filing of H-1B visas NOT subject to the cap of 65,000.
That's right: the current law allows for an unlimited number of 6 year H-1B professional visas as long as they are offered as part of such joint ventures.

Imagine a statewide program where experienced instructors can be brought in to create a global tech training hub.
Diverse, experienced, and determined: a microcosm of the global IT community right here in Northern Virginia.

When I go to Richmond, this is one lever I plan to pull.

How do we deal with hate that gets taught and infects our society?

We had a great discussion about this last night at our #RestorativeJustice meeting.

A civil rights activist and the son of a white nationalist leader who found a way to conquer the hate he was taught.
As a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates (District 87) I wanted to spark a conversation that looks beyond - far beyond - the next election.

Yes, we have immediate fires to put out, but my advocacy has centered on the long game.

Where will we be in 50 years? 100?

Not always, I guess. @NumbersUSA (the nation's largest grassroots anti-immigrant organization you head) blocked me.
But what is NumbersUSA?

It's part of the trifecta of anti-immigrant organizations, the others being the Federation for American Immigration Reform (@FAIRImmigration) and the Center for Immigration Studies (@CIS_org). All were founded/nurtured by John Tanton, a white nationalist.
NumbersUSA was founded by Dr. Roy Beck who was "concerned" with "certain" people "overpopulating" the United States. (Heard that before? Yes - white nationalists are also very concerned about overpopulation. We see you.)

It's uncomfortable, but necessary. As a candidate, I don't want to be the type of legislator that only looks toward the next election.

I was thinking about how people hurt animals by feeding them the wrong kinds of food. You got seagulls flocking en masse to places like City Island NY for fries, desserts, etc that limit their lifespan. We don't "own" them, but theyll always attempt to eat it if its available.
And preventing them from entering with like a dome would just seem so selfish and unethical. What do you do? How do you prevent them from growing dependent on that food as opposed to what is healthier for them (fish, insects, etc.)?
Do we limit what we eat based on what other animals may find? And then, do we abstain from sharing with them? If a stray cat grows dependent on my porch and leftovers I purposely or accidentally leave accessible in a place that freezes over in the winter, is it okay?

Long story short, I believe that these girls are telling the truth. It's ONE thing if it was just one person and an isolated incident. But when you have MULTIPLE people claiming the SAME thing with people willing to back it up? Nah bro.

Seeing some folks I follow circulating a point that's worth drawing a bit of attention to. One of the oldest canards in low-denominator comedy is that women are inscrutable and men can't understand them. There's a reason for this and it ain't funny.
By the time a man reaches adulthood he has probably heard that women constantly say one thing and mean another, and that they are impossible to understand, at least a thousand times. To some extent he probably believes this to be true.
And to a degree it is. Women VERY frequently say one thing and mean another, display expressions or reactions that don't jibe with their feelings, and so on. But it's actually really easy to decode once you understand why it happens. It is survival behavior.
