Apple's new subscription ≠ Netflix. Movies are one-offs that don't have to cross-promote and you have no relationship with the studio. News publishing is about loyalty, getting you to read more of their articles today & tomorrow. That's tough if you give up control to Apple.
Will Apple News Premium let publishers sign you up for email newsletters? Sell event tickets? Freely cross-promote content? Run native ads? What happens if it buries you under tons of other outlets? Formatting control is important
I worry in a year we'll see publishers who gave Apple 50% of subscription revenue to be in Apple News Premium not getting discovery -> few readers -> tiny payouts, but they've cannibalized their own subscriptions. Why pay them when they're "free" with Apple News?
