1/I can't find it now, but I saw someone saying that when people think of an "expert", they tend to think of a man.

Well, here is a thread of women who are experts on topics of interest to me - and not just experts, but my #1 go-to expert in that field.

Interesting thread. But it's important to convert to purchasing power parity, since most of this is just exchange rate movements.

Iraq GDP per capita in 2002: ~$12,000

In 2017: ~$15,600

That's about a 30% gain in 15 years.

For the U.S., the gain over that period was 57%.
Now, those figures aren't inflation-adjusted.

If we look at inflation-adjusted growth from 2002-2017, Iraq actually grew by about 43% total.

That's about a 2.4% annualized real per capita growth rate.
In other words, the idea that Iraq is much richer now than before the U.S. invasion, or has grown at a rapid pace in the last few years, is just not true.

There has been modest progress. I'd expect as much just from the lifting of U.S. sanctions!

1/OK so here's a thought I had about superstar cities and crappy politics.

Short version: Superstar cities lull people into believing that nothing could ever hurt the economy.
2/I had this thought because of Amazon. In the end, it doesn't matter if NYC boots Amazon, because NYC is a superstar city. Companies will still want to come to NYC, and there will still be plenty of jobs.

3/NYC has this magic invincibility because it's a superstar city.

Thanks to the awesome power of KNOWLEDGE-INDUSTRY CLUSTERING EFFECTS, NYC can relax. Its prosperity is basically assured.

This is the biggest problem humans face with finances. Not being able to live within one’s means. While it’s important to continually seek to expand your means, living above what you earn will make you struggle financially, no matter what you earn.
If you earn a N1m monthly and your monthly expenses is N1.2m you will struggle. Yes, you might live better than the person earning 50k but your mind will never be at rest. You will be running from pillar to post and that can cause depression.

First, my stream art. My art usually starts somehow based on a @streamlabs theme, even if only for inspiration or to make my custom CSS/JS a lot easier to wrangle. The text is usually done w/ custom browser sources. For more info on Streamlabs OBS visit streamlabs.com/slobs/d/103698…
For custom fonts, I override whatever font selection is made via custom CSS. I embed my fonts as base 64 in the CSS thanks to @FontSquirrel's webfont generator. Base 64 seems to perform the best for locally-hosted HTML files with inline CSS even. Probably because no caching.

It's not really a secret to anyone who looks at my bibliography that I write a LOT. I mean, my first book came out in September of 2009: I am still not even ten years into this game.
But what sometimes seems to come as a surprise is the part where not every book can be written the second I think of it. Some books require me to do other things first. They need me to get BETTER.
(This is not me insulting my early work. I still feel that if I had only ever published FEED, I would not have been forgotten. But there are intricacies of structure and form that have taken practice and effort to learn.)
