sorry twitter but I am WAY too burned out today for any more shit. Ten years I’ve been doing my job in sexual violence work and we aren’t progressing. Anyone who tells you that are (a) misinformed or (b) lying.
Today is one of those days where I am ready to throw in the towel.

I’m SO TIRED of explaining to people why children are not to blame for rape, abuse or exploitation

I’m SO TIRED of explaining painstakingly that you cannot use education as an intervention to protect kids from rapists. Educating child abuse victims does not stop offenders.

I’m EXHUASTED from being constantly portrayed as the big bad evil bitch in this field for challenging something as simple as victim blaming.

We all talk shit, pat each other on the back and tell each other we are progressing but we aren’t.

How many more times do I need to stand on a stage & say:

‘Women are not to blame for rape. Kids are not to blame for being sexually abused. No, it doesn’t matter what they were wearing. No, it doesn’t matter how they behave. They don’t ask to be raped.’

WHY IS THIS SO HARD?

Don’t you let me catch you calling yourselves ‘child-centred’ ‘trauma-informed’ ‘holistic’ if you’re blaming victims of abuse, diagnosing them with mental illnesses, punishing them, isolating them, placing them out of area in care, telling them they need to change themselves.
