So about two years ago I think via the Art of Manliness, I stumbled across the idea of a commonplace book and I started using flashcards and an organizer, beginning to take notes on what I read, what I heard, all sorts of stuff. Then I stumbled across 3x5 leadership via
From the Greennotebook and about using Evernote to take notes electronically. I still write stuff down in my notebook or phone when I hear it, then down on the flashcards, then back up on Evernote, this way I've seen something/written it 3x, to really get in my memory.
So here's a bunch of notes I've taken over the years, limiting it to anonymous accounts only since that is the hot topic, also I apologize, the majority of the time if it's from twitter I don't write down who wrote or made the point,
-COIN cannot succeed because everyone understands that one day the United States will leave @iAmTheWarax
-Changing tables in men’s restrooms
-Foreign Service Academy patterned off of military academies (Someone also wrote an article on this)
-Future TOC
* Portable in standard ’20 container
* Modular to be able to combine
* Short to hid underground
* Electronic ink displays for military HQs
* Syncable with soldiers in the field
* Can be hacked
This is an amalgamation from @thinkdefence and a couple others
-ATGM
Potential for conversion to anti-tank mine (LAW 80)
* If mounted, dismounted sighting and guidance unit (Swingfire ATGM)
* UAV as spotter system too
* Indistinguishable from other armored vehicles to prevent priority targeting
* Tript to launch while operator
stands beneath (Kornet ATGW)
* Fire and Forget
Again this comes from several @thinkdefence posts
-There's also a bunch of latin phrases that gets thrown around, which to a)understand and b)use it myself i've written down
-Instead of saying do you remember me say “I’ve met you before, but you probably don’t remember so let me reintroduce myself
- Don’t say oh that’s easy
* What’s easy for you is difficult for others
-When you’re the boss, you’re the dinnertime conversation
-If you’re a leader and you find mistakes from time to time absolutely unacceptable, you’re doing it wrong. People are human, mistakes happen. As long as they are not repeated often you have to recognize we are human
@SNAFU_Sara
-Ready Bag: If you have an emergency bag, consider putting tampons in it to show that you care about females under your command not just males, clearly this came from a female anon, but I don't remember who
-Have people write a one page memo about how to work with you
- Always be wary of senior leaders who say things like you’re lucky I spoke up for you with <more senior leader> a lot
* Either you fucked up and they didn’t properly address it initially
* Or they need to feel superior, I think this was @puckthepilot
-Taking out the Trash
* Shows your organization is willing to do manual labor
* Shows your willing to work hard
-Privilage
*Who is allowed to keep making mistakes
-SLLS halt
*You have two eyes to look, two ears to listen, two nostrils to smell, and one mouth
* Organizational Priorities
* 50-66% of an organization’s time is spent responding to higher, pretty sure this was off a thread started by @pptsapper
Target Refrence System
* Make overlay of AO and put TRPs on all intersections, hilltops, etc
* All cantonments are C (X), MP area are M (X)
* S3 does it
* Ground burst illumination from mortars to mark hasty TRPs
*This came from our NTC contingent
* As a BDE leader meet with departing CO/1SGT
* Can be very open and honest, from @TomHeartsTanks
* The person who screwed up last week may be this week’s genius
* Ask your soldiers why they joined the military
*If significant other calls, let their spouse answer. It’s A important and needs to be answered, or B isn’t and they’ll be so embarrassed that the spouse will be told not to ever do it again
* Innovation
* Offer a four day pass to the person with the best idea
* Make a list of dumb ideas, how could they be smart
*Think this was @Doctrine_Man
AAR
* Always start AAR w/youngest or lowest member so they won’t be affectedd by opinions of seniors. Also how you can know if your purpose is reaching lower level
* Record AAR
* Notes go to all subordinates
* Recording goes to the Company Commander
Change of Command
* Digital clock countdown at speakers new, at zero they get shocked
* 7/3/2 - 7 minutes for presiding, 2 for outgoing, one for incoming officer
* Speaking as long as hand can stay in a bowl of ice
* You aren’t humbled when taking command - you’re honored
FRG Ideas
-Dunk tank for key leaders
-Pie in the face for key leaders
This may seem small, but there's intangibles like seeing what someone like @LadyLovesTaft revolutionize PAOing (idk if that's a word, but i'm making it one) or learning how to be a better ally to female soldiers and officers and some of the ridiculous extra shit they have to
go through to serve their country because of male stupidity. Angry Staff Officer who got me started on this professional development/twitter journey. I found one of his articles on how Hoth should have gone and then found a leadership article, then followed him and now we're
here, plus a nerdy historian Captain, like goals, duh. And so many of his articles that have struck home with me. Especially on men doing better protecting women, a month after it came out a girl I knew, was assaulted at A&M, the situation is still messed up, or our favorite
Armor Officer @TomHeartsTanks whose demise and my subsequent jokes gained me 300 followers in the space of about two days. His hot takes, his unpopular Army opinions, his honesty, and others in dealing with PTSD, stress, or therapy
@TomHeartsTanks Or the NCOs like (she's gonna hate me) @sgtjanedoe or @DrillDarkSide who point out things that I as a LT would never have known about the enlisted side of the house. Also @ChemicalFire cause I don't know anything about CBRNE or is it CBRN, what happened to NBC anyway?
and I still don't but am learning.
Sorry apparently there's a limit on tweets in a thread. Anyway, I'm a straight, white, Christian male, who had both parents, don't have any debt because of my parents and scholarships, I am ridiculously privilaged, but all y'all (shoutout to Texas) and your anon accounts
have reinforced just how privileged I am and how I can use the winning lottery ticket I got to help others and be a better leader, soldier, and citizen. So maybe this was super sappy and stupid, but I needed to say that, cause yeah, I like the corner of miltwitter I exist
in, even if its just as your dumb, lost, friendly, neighborhood Armor LT.

Also RIP everyone's notifications #sorrynotsorry
And if I missed you as an anon account, i'm sorry, I wrote this supper fast. @CadetChronicle love your cadet stories, keeping us humble, @Cattileesi making me learn more about Reserve/AG stuff than I ever otherwise would.
