I cannot fucking deal with liberals and fake-ass “Leftists” who defend the sex trade with these lame ass excuses. Libs be like “not all porn!” the same way antifems and MRAs be like “not all men!” in response to male violence.
No shit not every single porno is the exact same scenes and themes of women being battered, raped, and degraded. There is so much porn on the Internet, anything can be found.
Feminists are saying that the porn industry is an inherently misogynistic system because it is built on, founded on, and profits off of hated & objectification of women. Not every single porno needs to reflect that in order for that fact to be true.
Even if not even most porn vids on the Internet depict outright hatred & violence against women, the most popular always do and always have. These are the ones that are having impact. These are what porn is being watched in order to see.
Even if it isn’t all misogyny, the ones saturated with it are the ones that are creating porn’s impact on the world. And at that, the foundation of ALL porn, no matter how “soft” or “ethical” it is, is commodification of sex and thus objectification of the women providing it.
Look at ancient fucking Rome for the origin of the word and medium. It’s only gotten worse from there. All porn is misogynistic regardless of actual content by virtue of being porn in the first place. “Feminist” porn is like an “anti-racist” minstrel show.
Can’t change fundamentally unethical and flawed systems for the better. Strangely, people can understand that until it comes to the sex trade. Even in porn where a woman is supposed to be dominating, it is still clearly pandering to male gaze and fantasies.
The “dominant” women often conform to the same restrictive performance of femininity as their submissive counterparts. They fit into conventional beauty standards and are thin, white & feminine (unless they are WoC, then they are often fetishized) and wear revealing clothes.
To the actual feminist, “feminist” porn is the equivalent of “clean coal” to environmentalists, or “humane meat” to animal rights activists; a cheap, tokenistic concession (often times the EXACT same thing rebranded!) made to silence criticism of fundamental & systemic impacts.
A good analogy would be McDonald’s: nobody in their right mind would say that McDonald’s (or any other fast food place) is not unhealthy just because they have salads on their menu. That’s the entire point of fast food, to be unhealthy, cheap, and mass-produced.
Throwing some salads on the menu doesn’t make McDonald’s a “healthy” restaurant any more than throwing some “feminist” or “non-violent” pornos into the mix absolves the porn industry of its misogyny.
Even if you are buying a salad from McD’s and not those artery-clogging burgers and fries, you are still contributing to the problem of obesity and unhealthiness by supporting a system that inherently creates and relies on it. Same for porn. The $ goes to the same place.
(Fun fact: McD’s salads actually contain more calories than their burger).
The same way obesity is the impact that McDonald’s ultimately has on society, violence against women and hatred towards women is the impact that porn (and the rest of the sex trade) ultimately has on society. The negative impacts of the industries can’t be averted because this is
what they were made for. A non-sexist sex trade is as impossible as a healthy fast food industry.
Would you shop at a store that routinely abused only SOME of its workers, but NOT ALL of them? Same logic.
