This. If you defend the filibuster then resort to it when you can’t get 60 you’ll look like a sore loser. Far better to make the case for getting rid of it on the merits.
Another term for “tyranny of the majority” is democracy. The real danger to democracy is tyranny by a minority faction, which is what Hamilton & Madison warned against in the Federaliat papers and why they created the Senate as a majority-rule institution.
The Founders did not put it there. This is a widespread misconception. To the contrary the Founders created the Senate as a majority-rule body and even created a backstop for the Senate to cut off filibusters with a majority-threshold procesural vote.

Flores’ role is massively curtailed and can’t do any of the things you’d expect the role to do. Her presence will chronically undercut CNN’s trust with the public and many of its reporters’ sources. And the market is flush with talent for the job. But other than that, great hire!

People who push their elected officials to be better on the issues we care about are good. They’re participating in democracy. They’re spilling their guts and telling us what keeps them up at night. It’s not divisive. It’s what we need.
Miss me with “they’re just out to divide us Dems.” It’s healthy. They’re out to push us to do better, to be more aggressive on the issues we care about. That’s good. It’s not always comfortable but it’s what we need.

My brief take on the #ParklandSchoolShooting anniversary: The fact that, as many have pointed out, we remember the names of survivors and not the shooter is a welcome advance — a sign that media do have a choice not to keep repeating their role in the ingrained script.
Time will tell whether the Parkland movement changes mass shootings — reduces the mystique and so the allure for prospective shooters, maybe makes them less frequent. There's already some anecdotal reason to believe that notoriety has become a less potent incentive.
That said, it's hard to be sure that the Parkland movement is an unalloyed good. Far better to make celebrities of survivors than shooters. But the need to respond to social traumas by finding *someone* to make a celebrity out of has a troubling continuity with the old dynamic.

As good a time as any to make my case for getting rid of the #CFBPlayoff:
The BCS and now the BCS playoff came from the idea of being able to crown a true national champion of college football.
That's dumb, because it's impossible. With 130 or so BCS teams, and 12 games + conference champs + playoffs, you just don't have enough data to make an unassailable determination.
But that's fine! For decades, teams played college football for 10 or 11 games, and at the end of a successful season, you got to go to a bowl, which was a cool thing to do over the holiday between semesters.

2) First of all the arrests were not a power grab by MbS. It was an anti-graft crackdown. Those arrested were investigated for using their political connections to misdirect public funds for their personal use.
