As good a time as any to make my case for getting rid of the #CFBPlayoff:
The BCS and now the BCS playoff came from the idea of being able to crown a true national champion of college football.
That's dumb, because it's impossible. With 130 or so BCS teams, and 12 games + conference champs + playoffs, you just don't have enough data to make an unassailable determination.
But that's fine! For decades, teams played college football for 10 or 11 games, and at the end of a successful season, you got to go to a bowl, which was a cool thing to do over the holiday between semesters.
As it stands now, conference championships line up poorly with exams at most schools, and BCS playoffs disrupt or delay the start of another semester.
Expanding the playoff field to 8 would make this issue even worse.
So get rid of the BCS, go back to the bowl system, and you have more teams who can claim successful seasons.
Clemson goes to the Orange Bowl, beats the Sooners; Bama handles ND in the Sugar, let's say. And they never meet. That's fine! Neither of them would play UCF in any case. It's something for Bama and Clemson fans to argue about forever.
These are college football teams, and the current system has a negative impact on college students. If you want to follow football teams who play for an undisputed championship, may I suggest the NFL? /fin
