We're honored to announce that "Kept Out," our investigation into modern-day redlining, has been named a finalist in the Business/Financial Reporting Category for this year's @SH_Awards.

Details: scripps.com/foundation/new…
The investigation, which we released in February of 2018, showed that in dozens of U.S. cities, people of color were being denied home loans at rates that far exceeded their white counterparts.

After that, members of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee asked Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome H. Powell how he plans to address disparities in lending between whites and others. revealnews.org/article/congre…
By mid-March, we learned that at least five states and the District of Columbia had begun to probe lending disparities in their areas. revealnews.org/blog/state-att…
Reporters @eman_thedataman and @Aaron_Glantz continued to expand on the reporting.

They found that in the nation's capital, Chase was rarely lending to people of color. revealnews.org/article/chase-…
Less than a month later, Chase announced a major expansion in D.C.

It vowed to open 70 new branches and committed to make $4 billion in home mortgage and small-business loans in the area over the next five years. revealnews.org/blog/chase-ann…
As recently as September, @SenWarren unveiled a bill that one racial justice advocate said would be the first law since 1968 “to redress a century of housing discrimination.” revealnews.org/blog/sen-warre…
We're going to continue reporting on this important issue. As we do, be sure to follow @Aaron_Glantz and @eman_thedataman.
