The regressive belief system of the Republican Party rests on such an extraordinary implied insult to the intelligence and character of their followers—or it would be an insult, if those followers didn't rush forward so eagerly to fulfill it.
When someone is smug to me, I, too, vote to empower a authoritarian criminal with the mind of a cruel child. Their perceived smugness makes my abandonment of moral judgment *their* fault.
Anyway, even if you want to assume Trump understands how birth control works (and why should you?), the president ALSO wants his audience to believe the greatest threat facing the country is an imaginary raping horde rushing the border as an invasion force.

Furthermore, we already know that neither the president nor his self-deluded rage army cares one bit about girls coming up from the border, or whether or not they're raped.
