1. OK, I went off a little on this @IlhanMN controversy :
"The dishonest smearing of Ilhan Omar"
washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/…
I'd love it if you read the whole thing, but let me make a couple of points...
2. First, Omar said SHE didn't want to be forced to pledge allegiance to another country, to which a whole bunch of people disingenuously replied "How dare you say Jews have dual loyalty!" She didn't say anything about Jews.
3. So a lot of people just as disingenuously said "But you're saying people who support Israel have dual loyalty, and that means Jews!" Which in 2019 is ludicrous. The median "supporter" of Israel today is not a Jew but an evangelical Christian Republican.
4. The idea that Israel supporters=Jews hasn't been true since the 1980s, and it's less true now than ever. Most importantly, what AIPAC and Israel's advocates in Congress demand is PRECISELY "dual loyalty."
5. They say you shouldn't question Israeli policy, that U.S. policy must be unflinchingly supportive of Israel, and even that people in many states should be forced to sign written oaths promising not to support boycotts of Israel before they can do business with the state.
6. Which is LITERALLY a pledge of loyalty to another country.

But AIPAC and Israel's advocates - mostly Republicans but also many Democrats - don't demand "dual loyalty" from Jews, they demand it from everyone.
7. Omar said, multiple times, that she doesn't want to be subjected to that demand. This congressional resolution and controversy is a way of saying to her, "Oh yes you will." It's a lesson to everyone that if you're too vocal in criticizing Israel, you will be punished.
Anyhow, read the article: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/…
