Can't let go of one detail from @JaneMayerNYer's brilliant piece on Fox (i.e. MAGA-PRAVDA). In 2017, Fox retired their long standing logo--"Fair and Balanced." Would love to have been a fly on the wall in the room where that decision got made. newyorker.com/magazine/2019/…
@JaneMayerNYer Here's an article on the switch to "Most Watched, Most Trusted." Fox says it had to do with the departure of Ailes. I'm dubious that this is the primary reason. nytimes.com/2017/06/14/bus…
@JaneMayerNYer According to a Fox official quoted in the Times article, it was actually August 2016 when Fox first dropped "Fair and Balanced."
@JaneMayerNYer I also can't resist noting one uncanny convergence. In August 2016 (when I was very new to this Twitter thing), I read an NYTimes story about Bannon's appointment to head the Trump campaign. I made this prediction. In late October the plan I speculated about began to be hatched.
@JaneMayerNYer On the topic of "Most Watched, Most Trusted," here's a half-playful, half-serious thread from last year exploring the possibility that 1/3 of the country might be in an abusive relationship with their president.
@JaneMayerNYer Finally, a thread from last April where I explored the anti-democratic, MAGA mindmeld forming between Trump, Fox, and Trump's base. It's a real divergence in the history of media and politics.
