In 2011, Khalil openly lived in an Islamabad suburb, without fear of repercussions from the Pak state. Keep in mind his HUM was involved in the attack on the US Consulate in Karachi, hijacking an Indian airliner, and murdering @WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl.

@WSJ I hope the irony of the announcement that Khalil and his followers back PTI the same day that Pakistan announces its "crackdown" on terrorist groups isn't lost on anyone.

1. A brief history of why Saudi Arabia is an ally and Iran is not: First, Iran was in fact once a US ally, decades ago, when the CIA helped overthrow the elected government of Mossadegh, and installed US-friendly Shah, whose brutality was given diplomatic cover by the US.
2. The US-backed Shah's brutality ushered in the Iranian Revolution. Revolutionaries called for the overthrow of monarchies and secular governments, to the alarm of Iran's Sunni-run Arab neighbors Saudi Arabia, Ba'athist Iraq, and Kuwait, which had sizable Shia populations.
3. The Iranian Revolution coincided with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan next door, setting the stage for the tightening US-Saudi bromance. Carter and Reagan needed Saudis to finance Afghan Mujahideen, and arms were funneled via Pakistan to Islamist rebels in Afghanistan.

9-11 was a “terrorist” attack, but it was not perpetrated by “angry Arabs”, it was a State-sponsored “inside job”, a “false flag” operation planned, executed, and covered up by elements of the USG and operatives from at least two other countries.
The alleged 19 Arab “hijackers” were “patsies”, several are still alive, several were under the care and feeding of USG operatives and were being “trained” at CIA-operated flight schools.
FBI field agents who discovered the plot were told by their superiors not to investigate the “suspicious Arabs in flight schools”

(1) Here's a story that needs some investigative time put into it, if anyone's interested. Has everything: Osama bin Laden, GITMO, Mennonites, "pacifism," the Taliban, disaster tourism, US-Pakistan relations, family dynamics, sexual assault charges, & possible Stockholm Syndrome.
(2) When Canadian Joshua Boyle and his American (second) wife Caitlin Coleman & 3 children were freed from their Taliban-linked captors and returned to Canada in October 2017, my spidey senses about him were activated.
(3) Caitlin Coleman's parents were ofc relieved beyond belief that the 5 were free, safe and able to start rebuilding their lives in North America BUT they expressed anger that Joshua Boyle had taken a pregnant Caitlin into Afghanistan in the first place.
