The GOP has a white nationalism problem. What are the party's leaders going to do about it? talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/whit… via @TPM
@TPM I mean, I suppose the things this kid said about wanting to harm journalists and BLM protestors and using the n-word were just him "being naughty," like Tucker. Nothing to see here, the best people...truly, the best people.
@TPM Here's another example of how emboldened young white nationalists are finding it quite easy to infiltrate the GOP at the state and local level. This is their future generation of leaders. mynorthwest.com/1011333/james-…?
@TPM h/t to @Hammbear for drawing my attention to this 2017 article which makes the case at greater length, noting how many college Republicans were involved with the Charlottesville rally. splinternews.com/charlottesvill…
@TPM @Hammbear And now might be a good time to recall that Trump's campaign manager, Steve Bannon, saw Trump as a vehicle for advancing Bannon's dream of building a global politics around conservative, populist nationalism (a polite term for "fascism"). washingtonpost.com/politics/a-nat…
@TPM @Hammbear And in all honesty, how surprising is the unbearable whiteness of the contemporary GOP given that it hasn't put much effort into earning the votes of African-Americans since 1964--which is 55 YEARS AGO?
@TPM @Hammbear Some back of the envelope math from last summer where I conclude that some 170,000 GOP voters have pulled the lever for a candidate who is an avowed white supremacist.
Update to the Portland variant of the GOP white nationalism story.
