#BREAKING @splcenter drops another bombshell report on Stephen Miller and his *extensive* connections with white nationalist hate group @CIS_org.

Why is this so important? Of course Stephen Miller is a white nationalist, right?

splcenter.org/hatewatch/2019…
Ramped up #ICERaids.
#TPS loss.
#DACA revocation.
#RemainInMexico protocols.
The #MuslimBan
#PublicCharge.

Miller is often credited as architect of 45's immigration policies, but these policies didn't just appear in his mind overnight. He had lots of help, going back a long way.
The Center for Immigration Studies was founded by white nationalist/eugenicist John Tanton. If you follow me, you know I've been seeking to unseal the private #TantonPapers for 3 years.

.@BernieSanders' immigration plan is good.

It's really, really good.

Ultimately, it goes where @ewarren's plan doesn't: by respecting immigration as a labor, climate change, and foreign policy issue - and wresting it away from criminality.

berniesanders.com/en/issues/welc…
I'm a practicing immigration lawyer. Both the Sanders and Warren plans would overhaul the practice of immigration law, and in an objectively good way.

The Warren plan:

medium.com/@teamwarren/a-…
Getting rid of the 3/10 year bars alone (which both candidates commit to) would singularly change the advice I give to the majority of my clients. Restructuring (abolishing) ICE would, too. As would creating Article I immigration courts. There's a lot to love in both plans.

EVERYONE needs to see this.

A wire map of white supremacy in the Trump administration on immigration.

Check out the link here:

If you've ever wondered, "Where do all these horrible policies come from?" like #KidsInCages, #MuslimBan, ramped up #ICERaids, #DACA revocation, etc - you might think the evil mind of Stephen Miller.

But Miller's no immigration guru. He's had a LOT of help.
Hover over the names. Read about the connections and you'll see: we're not fighting Trump or Miller.

We're fighting a *movement.* A defined, purposeful movement that thrives on a diet of white nationalism, deplorables, and bigotry.

And we're about 40 years behind them.

Very important news.

The @colcomfdn is THE money behind the entire anti-immigrant movement. No one has given more to these white nationalists. No one.

Without Colcom, there would be no anti-immigrant movement to speak of.
@colcomfdn The bombshell @NYTimes report from 8/14 traced the dark ideology of Colcom's founder, Cordelia Scaife May, who bankrolled the efforts of white nationalist John Tanton (whose papers I am suing to unseal) in the late 1970's.

Many of Colcom's grantees are part of the #TantonNetwork of hate groups.

Colcom funds hate, and Tiedemann Advisors did the right thing by dropping them.

Y'all, this is a BFD.

The website in question is @vdare run by white supremacist @peterbrimelow.

WHITE NATIONALISM IS IN A DEPT OF JUSTICE AM BRIEFING.

Today, they goofed and it slipped out. But these are the groups informing our policy affecting MILLIONS of people of color.
The hate networks of John Tanton, who died in July, have infiltrated the Trump administration, where they've injected their sick and twisted ideologies which metastasize into things like caging brown kids for profit.

Tanton was good buddies with Vdare's Brimelow. (Shocker.)
Sound familiar? Family unification ? Chain migration? Attacking asylum?

Brimelow and Tanton were discussing this in 1995.

Check out what Tanton was thinking about 20 years before that: ending #BirthrightCitizenship

#WhiteNationalism has become brazen and open in this administration.

But it persists with the people behind the scenes, building a wall more effective than any physical one, clothing racism not in a white Klan robe but in a black judicial one.

I'm calling for a hearing.
To people like me who punish themselves by reading the writings of racists and white nationalists, it's a very familiar refrain.

Invasion
Illegal
Criminals
Aliens
Losing our identity
Them

Why else would cult classics like #CampoftheSaints still enjoy popularity?
It lays out the racial fear raw and unvarnished. Great to rally people to your cause, and maybe get them to light Tiki torches or shoot up a Wal-Mart on the border.

But it doesn't make true exclusionary policy.

The expansion of #ExpeditedRemoval is a game changer.

Deportation without a hearing has been part of the law for a long time, but now, it essentially turns the entire United States into a border.

#DueProcess of law is dying a horrid death.
First: expedited removal, or ER, applied to noncitizens caught within 100 miles of the border who couldn't prove they'd been in the US for 2 weeks.

Under expanded ER, it's the whole US, and for anyone who can't prove they've been here for 2 *years*.

s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspect…
If you're in ER, the ONLY way out is to claim asylum and be scheduled for a "credible fear interview," or CFI. Even those have become harder of late. Otherwise, *you just get deported.*

Add to that the family separation, and you can see: THIS IS A NIGHTMARE SCENARIO.

about our court win bringing us closer to unsealing the #TantonPapers.

These papers shine a light on the ideological underpinnings of the anti-immigrant movement, currently in the White House ear.

This weekend we may see massive coordinated #ICEraids and yes, we have to #ProtectEachOther from rogue #immigration enforcement.

It's a fire, and has to be put out, but where is the flamethrower?

The organizations that embraced white nationalism as immigration policy.
It's time to reign them in. We've tried it their way for years.

And we ended up jailing babies.

Enough. Move over. You're not driving this country anymore.

Not interested in debate or conversation. You ruined America's welcoming beacon.

You jail babies.

The threat of mass deportations.

These are the policies I'm seeking to uncover with my lawsuit against the University of Michigan to unseal the #TantonPapers.

I'm quoted here talking about the offensive use of chaos to scare entire communities.

washingtonpost.com/immigration/wi…
Easier to do when you dehumanize. That's what Tanton wanted for non-white people.

What I wouldn't give to see his communications with groups like the Pioneer Fund, which bankrolled eugenics research. And to see the people he courted and communicated with.
And draw lines to current administration players like Stephen Miller, Kris Kobach, Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon, and Kellyanne Conway.

Every single immigration policy adopted by this administration has disproportionately or exclusively harmed people of color.

Without exception.

I sued @UMich to unseal the papers of John Tanton, the racist architect of the modern anti-immigrant movement.

We can't wait until 2035 to understand how our immigration policy is informed by white nationalists.

Today, the Court ruled in our favor:

hmalegal.com/uploads/3/7/9/…
The groups he created are the ones most directly responsible for the humanitarian catastrophe that is our immigration system. Tanton donated his papers to U of M, but sealed half of them until 2035. I sued to unseal them.

hmalegal.com/blawg/tantonfo…
The #TantonPapers shine a light on the conceptual underpinnings of the policies that rip families apart, jail children, and create a permanent underclass. The lower court dismissed my claim, saying the papers were not public records and hence immune from disclosure.

I appealed.

Oh, I'm disappointed, @RoyBeck_NUSA. Last year you sent me a bag of gumballs to chew on and told me it was "always" good to stay in the conversation.

Well, not always! @NumbersUSA blocked me.

Don't like people knowing a little about your white nationalist origins?
This is why we're suing to unseal the #TantonPapers.

Your ideological father was a white nationalist.

White nationalism is in your DNA. You thrive and feed off of it. White nationalists love what you still for.

You claim to be pro-immigrant, but you lie. Lying is ok to you, of course, because you're doing it for America's "survival" from the "perils" of what you call "mass" immigration.

You rouse your membership to light up the switchboards on the Hill.

How? Bigotry works real well!

I have no excuse not to advocate. So as the season's first snow fell, my friend and patient advocate Peter @morethanmySLE and I hit the halls of the US Senate.

Peter suffers from chronic illnesses. The #ACA saved his life, so now he takes peoples' stories to their senators.
There is a rule being proposed called the "public charge rule." It vastly expands the types of public benefits that an immigrant seeking a green card is barred from - to the point that it becomes a public health issue.

Here's the rule - all 400+ pages:

federalregister.gov/documents/2018…
Because an immigrant mother with a breast pump paid for by WIC for her US citizen baby will fear that our government will deport her. So, her baby suffers.

This rule will be particularly harsh on pregnant and breastfeeding women, and children.

Emperor Trump thinks he can end #birthrightcitizenship by executive order.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, no, no.

This is such a ridiculous proposal that it's not worth spilling ink explaining. But there are dangers here.
1. American citizenship is being devalued. If it can be revoked or reinterpreted by mere executive order, it's less valuable than a Costco membership.

Remember: the admin has denied passports to (mostly) Latinos born in the US but near the border.

And there is now a denaturalization task force to revoke citizenship of certain naturalized citizens. Certainly, these attacks on US citizens are part of the administration's relentless attacks on all Americans, aspiring or otherwise.

Well this is curious. Apparently @FAIRImmigration believes I am a paid operative of "state-owned propaganda outlet" @ajplus to meddle in 2018 midterm elections.

Why? For this video I did calling FAIR out as driven by white nationalism:

I'm paid? News to my wallet; I thought I was just doing a public service.

Here's FAIR's press release:

prnewswire.com/news-releases/…
They accuse me of "spreading malicious disinformation in what is a clear attempt to influence the upcoming midterm election." I'm flattered they think so highly of me.

Entirely different, of course, from FAIR's statements influencing lawmakers here:

On a day the Trump White House celebrates #HispanicHeritageMonth SoS @SecPompeo announces Trump will cap refugee admissions at 30,000.

That's the lowest it's ever been. Why?

nytimes.com/2018/09/17/us/…
Because of too many asylum seekers from south of the border. But, Pompeo reminds us, this has nothing to do with how we feel about welcoming refugees. It's just about public expense.

Hot off the press #Trumpaganda from the Ministry of Truth.
(To clarify: a refugee is one who obtains that status outside the US and is then allowed to enter. An asylum seeker comes into the US through other means, and obtains refugee status if they win their claim. The cap is on refugees resettling here, not on asylum seekers.)

John Tanton, the founder of the nation's largest anti-immigrant organizations currently informing immigration policy, believed Asian men have small penises.

(this is why I'm suing to unseal the #TantonPapers)

Read his own words:
To recap: This is a man who was obsessed with ideas about racial purity and eugenics. His ideas informed his views on immigration. Those organizations are currently in the White House's ear.

This is a problem.

splinternews.com/the-eugenicist…
So who was he writing to to find out about the use of male aphrodisiacs?
The letter is addressed to a shadowy figure named Harry Weyher, Jr.

He was a lawyer (and fellow @UNC alum..) but more notably, served as President of the Pioneer Fund from 1958 until his death in 2002.

White nationalist Stephen Miller has been busy executing plans to attack immigrants in lawful status.

This news, that more aspiring Americans will be deemed "public charge" and ineligible for citizenship, is making the rounds today.

Some thoughts:

nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna8…
First, these aren't new ideas. The Center for Immigration Studies is an anti-immigrant hate group born in white nationalism.

In 2016 they published a wishlist of 79 things a president could do to limit immigration.

Look at #60:

cis.org/Report/Pen-and…
Second, consular officers overseas are already newly empowered to deny visas based on possibility of public charge even when there is a sufficient affidavit of support guaranteeing the US government repayment.

This will extend the policy stateside.

Behind modern players like Kris Kobach, Otis Graham, Jeff Sessions, Steven Miller, and Steve Bannon is a trifecta of anti-immigrant organizations: FAIR, NumbersUSA, and CIS. All three of these organizations stem from the same man: Dr. John Tanton.

patriotnotpartisan.com/immigration/wh…
Tanton donated his papers from 1960 to 2007 to @UMich, provided that 11 boxes would be closed to access until 4/6/2035. I sued to get access now–public documents can't be insulated from FOIA just because U of M promised its donor that they'd be hidden.

FAIR was founded by a white nationalist. It has profited from, grown with, and fed off of white nationalism since it's inception.

It's core task is to figure out ways to package ugly racism into swallowable pills for public consumption.

This is one such pill.

Today I met Kelvin Pierce. If you don't know him, you should.

He has an extraordinary story of overcoming hate. And it's precisely what our country needs.
He's the son of William Pierce, founder of the white supremacist group the National Alliance, and author of The Turner Diaries. (It's a racist novel called a "bible of the racist right.") Timothy McVeigh cited it as partially inspiring his 1996 terrorist attack in Oklahoma City.
I first listened to Kelvin speak at a state commission meeting in May and his story of growing up in a household of one of the white nationalist movement's leaders was jarring.

Years of abuse, neglect, hatred...all of which he had to find the tools to overcome.

Want to see what the founder of the nation's anti-immigrant movement was thinking about when he decided to start it?

Ending birthright citizenship.
Building a wall.

Because otherwise, the future would be "undesirable."

Dr. John Tanton, in 1975:
Was Dr. Tanton a white nationalist? White supremacist?

This much we know: his ideas on immigration are certainly espoused by white nationalists.

He was once called the most influential unknown man in America.

He needs to be a lot more famous.
Here's a memo of when Tanton and his colleague Roger Connor met with the commissioner of the then-INS in 1981. Confirmed that his lack of familiarity with immigration was a strength.

White nationalist sympathies have been injected into immigration policy for decades.
