Would we ever see another footballer performing with the consistent excellence of Messi & Ronaldo? I don't think so. Why? Because consistent excellence is driven by PERSONAL desire & commitment. And these days, players & media outsource desire & commitment to managers.
Suddenly, it is fine not to play well if you don't like the manager. Or if he doesn't praise you enough. Or if he plays you in a new position. Anything he does that makes you uncomfortable is good enough reason to lose desire & motivation.And fans are ready to amplify the excuses
Messi & Ronaldo & other consistently excellent performers(I see Mbappe in that mold already) are too driven by a personal desire to succeed & don't go around playing victim & looking for excuses. It is the difference between the trye greats & the many decent players around.
Any player or anyone whose performance is largely determined by how comfortable they are is unlikely to achieve greatness.Ronaldo started scoring more than 40 goals a season at 23.Talented 23 year olds these days claim they need to be hugged & kissed to score 20 a season.Funny.
