Maybe a good day for us in Europe to reexamine one of our greatest moral failings: Islamophobia. It cuts aross the political spectrum and sometimes comes from the most unexpected corners
The general feeling that Muslims do not belong in Europe is extremely widespead. I would even call it the majority view. It comes from conservatives, socialists and liberals equally. It is present in parliaments, governments, newspapers, universities and courts
Walk around Brussels, the European capital. Young Muslim immigrants are deliberately kept out of the labor force, neighborhoods are heavily segregated, Eurocrats will look at you in disbelief if you say you had dinner in Molenbeek and courts rule that employers can ban headscarf
And then of course the European Parliament thinks local Arab drivers are not good enough

What does the deal do? Honor the UK commitments on payments and citizens’ rights, puts in place a backstop for Ireland in face of an inflexible demand from EU and concerns about GFA. And that’s all. So why does Philip Stephens attack it?
Does he think a good deal would have the UK run away from its commitments?

It’s remarkable how the language in new EU strategy on China was copy pasted from German BDI

But this should also show you there is no shift. There is a new emphasis on old topics having to do with the “economic constitution”
All the EU is saying is that it must become more competitive and use a little more force in pushing China to open up. It’s not a new strategy. And it won’t work

A propos of my thread about being largely intellectually flexible
1. "Litfic" as a contemporary construct is a meaningless and arbitrary distinction. Great stories, great characters, and great language all work together to tell us something about the human condition.
2. All stories/novels have an implicit theology, by which I mean a set of decisions made about the textual "world" and the presence (or absence) of the divine in them (Fate, vs. atheistic noirscapes, etc). This was my DPhil so I'll fight on this.

1. As conservative commentator @MarkSteynOnline commented recently, “the only thing missing from the Russia investigation are the Russians." Mark might closer to the truth than he realized. Let me see see if I can explain.
2. Did you happen to catch @DevinNunes on @MariaBartiromo over the weekend? Lets give a little listen. Pay very close attention to the first minute or two for important details.

3. Very first statement. "No one was ever interested in an an informant." There may be an informant or informants. What we have been asking for are the handful of documents used to begin this investigation:". Nunes has been driving toward the heart of where this thing started.

1. I think I may have allowed myself to be misdirected by the DOJ and the Wapo.
After thinking carefully, & studying the enormous amount of research on Twitter regarding the possible identity of the FBI source. I think we may have been thrown off the trail.
2. Ever since this letter from the DOJ was released, we have been focused on "a specific individual". But, listen to what Nunes is quoted as saying in the WaPo. on Wednesday may 9th. See points #3 & #4
3. "On Monday, Nunes told reporters that his request did not seek information about a specific person.

“I’ve never referenced an individual. They did. They did that. I didn’t,” he said, referring to the Justice Department."
