the great vast majority of software simply runs on windows, with straightforward exceptions for some games, because the win32 api is unbelievably stable.
winsock is unchanged as well because TCP/IP solidified a long time ago, so, network software also works. I think they even had NDIS, so your modern network card is likely to work. I think the only reason you can't run 3.51 now is because they broke A20 line control in EFI
turns out since I last tested this it has stopped being so true. in fact, I'm not sure exactly what I DID test last time. A lot of DLLs appear to have changed that I'm positive worked in the past and - hey, you saw the screenshots I posted.

a thing i feel like people could do with understanding better is that no company is capable of turning off their software robots
say comcast keeps billing you on the 30th, and one month you need it moved to the 29th for a Reason. if you call and they say they can't do that or you'll just get charged again on the 30th, they're being serious. stopping it requires an act of God.
automated systems are *never* built with cut-outs. this has been my experience everywhere. if the company generally intended the system to apply to all accounts, they probably didn't add a feature for "list of accounts this will not apply to"

i think the thing that infuriates me the most is this last part. they are consuming material resources to create scam chaff. little electronic devices never meant to work for longer than it takes to get their money and run
go to goodwill. look at the vast piles of forgotten little plastic boxes. ask yourself how many of them kept the subterfuge going more than a few days
millions of little plastic boxes that got a few sad, unsatisfying uses before they were cast aside, "too cheap to return." the advent of the $1 plastic thing was the dawn of a billion companies making billions of $1 plastic things

We handwrote reports.

Internet? Barely on a detective's radar.
Crime bulletins or alerts were photocopied & literally passed out at detective meetings. Missed the meeting? You're in the dark without someone grabbing a stack for you.

Cell phones: Nextel was popular on shared flip phones. Ideas of a take-home cellphone would be laughed at.
