As the one and only Pornstar Pastor, it’s fitting that we should explore such an important topic...
1. Because it’s awesome.
2. Because I *think* we can agree it’s not unimportant or “just physical”.
3. Relationships matter.
Here we go...
Adam and Eve become “one flesh” in sex/marriage, right?
And Christians talk about how this represents a joining together at a deep level. And how extra-marital sex...
All familiar, right?
But this isn’t the experience that many of us have had. For some, multiple partners is nothing.
My guess is, those porn friends of mine would be on this side.
So...
Well, what most Christians do is assign more power to sex than is warranted.
Let’s pause for a second and talk about the *power* of sex I think we can all agree on. Maybe.
...
And in that sense, sex is vulnerability.
Whether there’s more power at play or not, sex is at least that...
Of course, sex doesn’t have to be vulnerable. And often it’s not.
But we can agree that’s not good sex. It’s not the kind of sex we want...
And when you are vulnerable with someone in sex - really vulnerable - it means something. Surely different things to different people, but something nonetheless.
And in that sense, it *is* powerful in a way that’s different...
Because being vulnerable with someone is never not powerful.
So, let’s get back to this power thing. Christians both believe and *want* sex to be powerful, right?
But here’s the problem...
It’s natural, I suppose, to leverage hyperbole to make a point. But when you believe the hyperbole over the truth, there’s a problem.
And this is where I find many Christians to be...
So much so that ENTIRE PEOPLE GROUPS are being excluded from God’s kingdom on the basis of their participation in the powerful activity of sex.
As if sex were more powerful...
It’s not. That’s not a thing. Jesus doesn’t encounter sex and, like, curl into a little ball trying to figure out what to do.
Sex is not surprising to him.
Last tweet coming up...
And it’s up to you to figure out how to balance it. What’s sin. What’s too vulnerable.
But don’t believe the hype(rbole...see what I did there?)
Sex isn’t more powerful than Jesus.
Be careful who you’re vulnerable with. Some people don’t give a fuck that you’ve laid it all out. They’ll take what they want and walk out the door.
It’s devastating. And that *will* damage your soul.
