This is important: Thomas Steensma, clinician-researcher at Dutch clinic which pioneered pediatric transition, agrees that "desistance among kids with *genuine gender dysphoria* is pretty common." Those of us who urge caution in transitioning minors are not "transphobic" when....
...we say desistance is real. We've seen it in our own families. It's not "bigotry" to believe trans-identified young people ought to move slowly, to avoid undergoing irreversible treatments they may regret in the future.
Certain activists & clinicians who push for affirm-only intervention claim desistance is a "myth" or only applies to kids who "aren't really trans" or are merely gender nonconforming. Clearly this is not the case, per one of the most experienced researcher-clinicians in the world
If Steensma is correct (and why wouldn't he be?), what does this mean for the (many) activists and clinicians (and the parents who listen to them) who fervently claim even toddlers can "know their gender identity"?
Why do we get this kind of propaganda, when the actual research evidence says otherwise?
