Thanks to Virgil van Dijk's textbook defending of a 1 vs 2, that Sissoko shot didn't even register as a 'big chance' according to Opta. Various xG models gave it just a 12-14% chance of finding the net.

Van Dijk: “I see Sissoko and I know he’s right footed, and Son normally finishes these chances, so yeah, I decide from that.”

So Van Dijk effectively had his own xG model in his head. Narrowing down the options, forcing the opponent onto his weaker foot, trusting his goalkeeper, and hoping for a little bit of luck.

Southampton’s 2017/18 financial results covered a season when they finished 17th in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup semi-finals, much worse than previous season (8th place in PL, competed in the Europa League and got to the EFL Cup final). Some thoughts follow #SaintsFC

#SaintsFC pre-tax profit fell from £42m to £35m, as revenue dropped 16% (£30m) to £153m, due to the poor performance on the pitch, though this was largely offset by profit on player sales increasing by £27m to £69m. Profit after tax was down from £34m to £29m.

Hearts 2017/18 financial results covered a “disappointing” season as they finished 6th in SPFL Premiership, but they “managed to deliver a very credible financial performance, while making great strides forward in terms of rebuilding infrastructure.” Some thoughts follow #hmfc

Hearts profit fell from £2.3m to £1.8m, despite revenue rising £0.8m (7%) to £12.3m (including player loans) and profit on player sales doubling to £0.4m, as these were offset by £2.1m cost growth. Included £3m donations: for stadium redevelopment £2m and player costs £1m #hmfc

Hearts revenue growth driven by gate receipts, which increased £1m (24%) to £5.3m, and commercial income, up £0.2m (4%) to £4.3m, offset by lower TV, down £0.3m (11%) to £2.5m. Exceptional donations from unknown benefactors were £0.5m higher at £3.0m #hmfc

#RangersFC recently published 2017/18 financial results, covering a season when they finished 3rd in the SPFL Premiership and reached the semi-final of both domestic cups, but crashed out of the Europe League in the 1st qualifying round. Some thoughts in the following thread.

#RangersFC pre-tax loss doubled for the second year in a row from £6.8m to £14.4m, despite revenue rising £3.4m (12%) to £32.7m and £1.2m profit on player sales compared to a £0.4m loss in the prior year. This was due to high cost growth, as the club invested in the first team.

All three #RangersFC revenue streams were up. Gate receipts and hospitality grew £1.4m (6%) to £23.0m; commercial increased by £1.3m (34%) to £5.3m; and broadcasting was £0.7m (20%) higher at £4.4m. Also no repeat of £3m 16/17 payment to terminate Sports Direct retail agreement.

2) When the Swan flew out, it was immediately butchered by imbeciles not understanding that you can’t predict the unpredictable.

That is the point – and an IQ filter NNT himself proly did not expect.

3) In any complex domain – life! – the Blackest Swan is always skulking around the corner. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know what where when. You can't tame what you've never even conceived of.
