Anytime I’m traveling I use Google Translate to check translations in real time on signage. You have to see it to believe it. This is real and LIVE while you move your camera. @ Paris
Folks just now getting hip to Google Translate’s advanced features. Check out this TWO WAY REAL-TIME CONVERSATION TRANSLATOR. (Not sure why the recording didn’t pick me up talking but I’m alternating Spanish and English in a fake convo)
Here’s Bing Translator. It lets you flip the interface so you can put the phone on the table and each side can see what the other says! Universal translators aren’t perfect but they are amazing for travel and they are free today!

A number of people asked me what projects, what code, what open source I did over the long holiday. ZERO. I did squat. I played video games, in fact. A bunch of them. I felt a little guilty then I got over it. hanselman.com/blog/TheFunOfF…
I'm not a big gamer but I like a good story. I do single player with a plot. I consider a well-written video game to be up there with a good book or a great movie. I like a narrative and a beginning and end. Since it was the holidays, it did require some thought to play games.
When you're in a mixed relationship (a geek/techie and a non-techie) you need to be respectful of your partner's expectations. The idea of burning 4-6 hours playing games likely doesn't match up with your partner's idea of a good time. That's where communication comes in.

Every year we do "Standards of Business" Training at work. Usually it's vignettes and a quiz, but the last few years it's been, like, PRODUCED. I mean, actors, plot-lines, backstabbing, and I👏🏼AM👏🏼GRIPPED. They've turned our ethics training into a telenovella. SO GOOD.
This guy is learning what happens when you're sloppy with security permissions. HE IS SO SAD.
I SWEAR IT STARTED LIKE AN EPISODE OF SVU. *PREVIOUSLY ON STANDARDS OF BUSINESS CONDUCT*. bump bump!

.NET is a family.
* Core runs on containers, many Linuxes, Windows and Mac. OSS, moves fast.
* Framework powers Windows itself, desktop apps. Moves slow. Conservative.
* Mono powers iPhone, Android, clean Portable C code.
.NET Standard is a versioned API spec like Android’s API levels. So if I write a library that is “.NET Standard 2” I know it can run anywhere. Cloud, watch, phone, Raspberry Pi. Anywhere.

Interesting detail in Super Smash Bros Ultimate: stages with flat artwork will flatten the player models too! I'm not sure what purpose this serves - it seems it's only obvious when playing with the free camera?
My best guess is it's so 3D players don't visibly intersect with 2D level geometry. They're also moving the flattened players *slightly* in front of the level geometry to avoid Z-fighting.
And then, even more curious, there are stages like 75m which are fully modeled in 3D but use an orthographic camera during gameplay to give the appearance of a 2D arena

a little background first: roda viva is a brazilian roundtable interview program that's been around for many years. they assemble a panel of interviewers and one guest, per episode. they are well-known for interviewing political figures+
before the 1st round of voting,& even before the VP choices were announced, they interviewed all the presidential candidates - save Lula, who was imprisoned by then. Bolsonaro was the last candidate to agree to an interview (after lots of roasting by the public & his opponents)+
at the time of these earlier interviews, lula was still the main presidential candidate for PT. haddad had not yet been designated as VP (which they did for a little bit on a provisional basis), not as the main presidential candidate (which is the case now)+

Things that surprised/amazed me about Japan, an ongoing thread.

1. A very friendly immigration officer and I laughed together, and when I said “I don’t really know where I’ll be staying,” he actually applauded it.
2. Very nice and clean train from the airport, with power sockets, and vending machines onboard.

Tons of solar panels passed by on the way.
