Is this true?

We keep hearing: "Most of the world trades on WTO terms"

1. All WTO members (yes, Mauritania too) have preferences (ie, better than WTO terms) for some of their trade.

2. Many if not most have preferential trade agreements with their neighbours.

P.S. But when you look at the specific case of the UK leaving a preferential trade arrangement with the EU, then the adjustment needed is huge

I'm pleased that the murals in the WTO building get an airing. The film is worth watching but the tone is annoying. Yes, when the General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade (GATT) took over the building the old murals from the International Labour Organization were covered up. But

First a group of WTO and ILO volunteers learnt about the murals. They persuaded the WTO's management to remove the panels covering them and restore damaged work. I know. Some were close colleagues, and one is even glimpsed in the film. The WTO did it.

I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me: while the finding is that Russia was within its rights this is not a blank cheque, ie, there has to be an emergency in international relations

Firstly, it is perfectly respectable to believe one's country should not have to participate in an ever closer political union with other countries and thereby release/'pool'/'lose control'* over some sovereignty. /2

* choose which one works with your predisposition.
That 'sovereignty' instinct is often at the start of someone's Brexit journey. They then become quickly convinced and categorical about the fact that Brexit is 'right' as they very soon see other things that confirm their rightness.

2/ There are wonderful things about the tech press-namely giving attention to innovation (which spurs more innovation & invst). The tech press matters- a lot.
But I also think too often they get seduced by large funding rounds. Talking about raising $100m is, very oddly, sexy.
3/ Raising big rounds is dilution. It is a post-money trap. It is a narrowing of options for exit. It is added pressure to grow- by Any. Means. Necessary.

And yes- sometimes it might also be a possible indication that company has some traction.

After the #fall of the #Roman #Empire in these businesses food was served in shared tables and consisted of a fixed menu, according to what was already prepared. Even the nobility, like celebrities today, would frequent when traveling.
But, when did the concept and business of restaurants truly begin?
It began with Paracelsus (1493-1541), a brilliant Swiss physician who modernized medicine with rational clinical judgment and changed the way we eat in the #Western #world.
