Our frame around this really unhelpful. I always thought a “conspiracy” was pretty unlikely. I also think the difference between a conspiracy and what seems to have actually happened is trivial. Legally it matters. Morally and from a national security POV, it doesn’t.
It needs to be hammered how unusual and frankly sort of sick it is that we appear to be incapable of assessing the conduct of political actors by any standard other than federal statutes. Because we apparently don’t agree about basic stuff being wrong anymore.
I mean, there are both practical and First Amendment reasons I think the kind of conduct Trump’s campaign engaged in SHOULD be hard for criminal law to reach, as a general matter. But that has very little to do with whether it should be grounds for removal from office.
