NEW: Following plenty of nudges from @eucopresident that patience and a long extension is the sensible #Brexit option... today, Donald Tusk‘s team will today formally tell EU officials from member countries to endorse a long extension until *31 March 2020* /1
A senior EU official has told me that Mr Tusk told officials from the 27 remaining EU countries yesterday that “The only reasonable way out would be a long but flexible extension. I would call it a 'flextension'.... /2
”... How would it work in practice? We could give the UK a year-long extension, automatically terminated once the Withdrawal Agreement has been accepted and ratified by the House of Commons....” /3
“... And even if this were not possible, then the UK would still have enough time to rethink its Brexit strategy. Short extension if possible and a long one if necessary....” /4
”...It seems to be a good scenario for both sides, as it gives the UK all the necessary flexibility, while avoiding the need to meet every few weeks to further discuss Brexit extensions.” /5
More on the actual new proposed deadline date:
It’s one year as we know.
A good source tells me *31 March 2020* is proposed date.

But that’s not formally on paper yet. It could be shifted to *1 April 2020* or *12 April 2020* (precisely 1 year after the current exit day). /6
Days of the week will likely be taken into account. An exit day of a Friday or Saturday is favored by some because it limits market reaction. /7
