Sometimes folks move on and leave their Twitter accounts behind, but automation they've set up such as follower tracking apps keeps on keeping on. How prevalent is this?

We took a look at a sample of 1009 accounts with tweets from follower tracking app Unfollowspy in the last 30 days. Of these accounts, 350 (34.67%) have been dormant other than Unfollowspy tweets for at least a month, and 132 (13.1%) have been abandoned for over a year.
What websites do accounts with unfollowspy set up link? Mostly unfollowspy itself, with a few other similar apps in the mix. Links to things other than follower apps such as news sites and YouTube videos comprise only 15% of the total.
On a final note, it bears repeating that one should be extremely wary when ceding control of one's Twitter account to a third party app. There is no reason that Unfollowspy needs the ability to read your DMs or modify your profile in order to perform its already spammy function.
