/? amidst all the "white passing Natives" tweets, i'll add that as the eldest of 3 daughters born to a Native mom & white dad, i appreciate when white-passing Natives own their white privilege.
/? ... and as a more phenotypically-recognizable Native in certain contexts, i face less authenticity questioning than has say my youngest lighter complected sister. i see it on peoples' faces--their initial acceptance of me as Native. they still inquire where/who i'm from.
/?....and and as a more phenotypically-recognizable Native in certain contexts, i face less authenticity questioning than my Black-Native niece and nephew. i know they experience anti-Black racism from both whites & Natives too.
/4... & as a more phenotypically-recognizable Native in certain contexts, but who has non-Black privilege, i experience Indigenous erasure from non-Natives of various racial backgrounds. race & Indigeneity intersect in complicated ways. Living well together takes work.
/5 oh that wasn't the last tweet. & obvs as a phenotypically-recognizable Native in certain contexts i.e. the rez border town i grew up in, i endured explicit anti-Native racism. then moved to boston to a world where we are seen to not exist (erasure) & i got non-Black privilege
