8 hours have passed since i attended germanys most important and high payed award for the german games industry: #DerDCP19 organized by @DoroBaer, @BMVI, @game_verband and @Digitale_Spiele. Since then i couldn't stop thinking about it. Here's why i think it was a mess...
The moderation was a huge fuckup. It was not funny, incredibly cringy, sometimes disgusting and failed to celebrate the stars of the evening: The makers of the celebrated games. Needless to say Ina Müller can't take the whole blame. Still, this was a mess.
Stop pretending where a bunch of white fat nerds sitting in our basement all time. It's not funny, never was and never will be. Ina Müller kept interrupting the winners in their thank you speeches for the cheap jokes written on her cards ...
The hosts for the different categories sometimes even were open about it that they simply didn't care about games or even the event they were hosting. One of them didn't even get the name right. I mean ... COME ON!
Yeah, that should be the mission of this award show. Then please, if the actress playing Senua from @HellBladeGame comes on stage, do not treat her like screaming was the most intense thing working on that game.
Very few people do and that's a pity. It would help if the livestream would provide more languages than german and the show wouldn't include lengthy monologues of politicians bashing the opposition all the time. Because ... this is not the topic!
Yes and the year before and the year before that and i won't stop till we can have an award show that I'm not embarrassed to be part of. Our Industry has a lot of problems. It can be a toxic place for a lot of people.
A yearly event that is meant to cherish that industry shouldn't be toxic. It should be open, welcoming and inclusive. It's main purpose shouln't be making fun of the creators. It should be empowering, encouraging and uplifting.
Well, have a look at other award ceremonies. Check out the @BAFTAGames , or even better check out the award ceremony at @AMazeFest organized by @ST0RN0. That's how you celebrate the makers and people working around this medium we all love.

If you understand german you can see yourself. If not, well lucky you i guess.
You are AMAZEing.
Although I have a lot to criticize I’m still very glad that this award exists and thankful for the people working on it. I just want it to be way better.
