FAMILY SYSTEM vs ENVIRONMENT
I argue that family system has contributed to what we see today in terms of moral values than environment/peer pressure
I pic on Two teenagers, I expose them to the worst environment, maybe drug abuse
One turns out to be an addict the other does not
Why yet they are in same environment?
I conclude that one has a choice to make in life, to choose a path. And I ask parents, why would your son or daughter be easy to choose a different path?
What role can you play?
I try to find out what contributes to the resistance against peer pressure, I realize it's the rational way of evaluating options and consequences of choices
I get back to parenting, why is it that one teenager is able to look at things from a rational perspective and the other one from emotional perspective? It's about family background
If you don't nurture the rational way of looking at life, your kid will grow up to handle things from an emotional perspective, which questions his or her self esteem and desire to please others
A low self-esteemed teenager is likely to seek validation from peers, hence negative influence. Find out how as a parent you destroy the self esteem of your kids
Rich or poor, most kids who deviate morally have come from dysfunctional families or families that seem to be functioning but have a gap in parenting
Kids who easily give in to peer pressure, are seeking extent love and validation that was missing at childhood in the family system
The reason to why peer pressure is wining is because most families have been dysfunctional over a period of time, we lost moral values at family level
Kids are being raised by parents who are behaving like teenagers, parents still struggling to impress the world hence lack of strong moral background to fall back to where peer pressure is high
