NEW: I've obtained a Home Office presentation which suggests it could be *2030* before a tech solution to the Irish border is possible.

Also...

-This isn't in place *anywhere* in the world.
-It would involve 28 govt agencies.
-Would be expensive.

Damning Home Office slide which sets out all of the problems with the fabled tech solution to the border. It’s not going to happen and if it ever does it’s not likely to work.
Slide confirms there is no project in govt to develop these solutions, nor a pilot. Probably because the civil service don’t believe it could possibly work.
This is how the Home Office think the system would operate. Blockchain, machine learning, internet of things and automated revenue collection all thrown into the pot. Bear in mind right now *none* of this is required.
It’s almost as if someone tried to find the most techy buzz words they could find and put it all in one handy slide.
Next steps: looks like Google and IBM are in the £££

Hold on to your hats folks, Labour source on NEC just told me: "I think it'll continue a while yet. Discussions very cordial but significant differences."
Source says NEC almost certain they’ll just agree to restate and adhere to the 2018 conference decision.
The meeting has concluded and indeed, they have done exactly that. 👆

The only thing which is surprising about Labour’s embrace of a more muscular environmentalism is that it’s taken so long to come about. Compared to the activities of @AOC, Green New Deal etc they’ve been relatively muted.
For example, I’d be surprised if you can name the party’s environment spokesperson. Which given how central environmentalism has become to new left politics across the world, seems rather odd.
Still, with locals and European elections looming and a frustrated base chafing at the party’s Brexit policy, this isn’t bad politics.

Extraordinary poll. It took UKIP twenty years to top the European elections. The Brexit Party might do it in less than twenty weeks.
The Tories could plunge lower still. Looks likely to me they will experience their worst national election result in history.
And despite it all I still cannot get my head around the number of remainers I speak to who actually think there will still be a referendum if the Brexit party comes first.

NEW ESSAY QUESTION for future historians of Brexit. Was the hung Parliament of 2017 the real reason why the Irish border question proved insoluble? My answer - not necessarily but it certainly ensured there was no space to have realistic debates on the East-West dimension (1/25)

It's common currency now in the Tory Party from the Prime Minister down to say that a customs border in the Irish Sea is unacceptable. In Theresa May's words, it is something no British Prime Minister would ever agree. It would say that NI is not an integral part of the UK (3/25)

HoL had tabled an amendment specifying no checks & controls of any sort. Pared-back version offered by govt in compromise was passed.

... which is a later range than “second half of 2018” used by ministers last year.. Then two years to do 3.5 million registrations... which is 6,731 per working day over 520 working days...
... so call that just under thousand applications per hour - or a registration system capable of granting an application every 3.75 seconds to get through all 3.5 million in two years

All different races of Mankind are derived from Manu and Shradha. The current Manu is Vaivasvata Manu.
2/ The word Manu literary means man but it is a title given to the progenitor of mankind. According to Hindu Puranas there are many kalpas (One day of Lord Brahma the creator) and each Kalpa has 14 manvantara and each manvatara has one manu. So basically each Kalpa has 14 Manus.
3/ The current manu of the present manvantara is Shraddhadeva or Vaivasvata Manu of this current Kalpa. He is the son of Vivasvat (Probably Surya) and is therefore also known as Manu-vaivasvata.
