The appropriate standard for judging a president who takes office with the help of a hostile foreign power he encouraged to attack our elections, and then impedes an investigation of it, has never been whether you think he can be criminally convicted.
Had you outlined this situation 5 years ago, with no party labels attached, there is nobody — not Barr, not Pelosi, not Nadler, not McConnell, not Graham, not the New York Times — who would’ve hesitated to say the president must be impeached.
I'm not a lawyer and won't speculate about what could or couldn't win criminal conviction, but Mueller's report, like everything we've all seen with our own eyes for more than two years, makes clear that Donald Trump should resign or be impeached immediately.
Within a week of the release of the Starr report, more than 100 newspapers had called for Bill Clinton’s resignation.

Newspapers that don’t do so now tacitly endorse Trump’s lawlessness.

Worse than a cancer on the presidency, Trump is a cancer on the nation.

Write letters to your local newspapers, folks.
I keep making this point about newspapers, but it’s true of politicians & others, too: it’s weird that nobody is calling for Trump’s resignation. That’s a standard way of expressing extreme disapproval, common in 1998 and as recently as Northup.

It’s like people have decided that since Trump doesn’t care about criticism, people shouldn’t bother to express their disapproval as strongly as possible. They should. It’s important to make clear we do not accept what he’s doing.

Trump can’t make us lower our standards. Only we can do that.
*oops. Northam, obviously. As far as I know nobody ever called for Anne Northup’s resignation.
I’ve seen people argue that, though Trump has committed impeachable offenses, Dems shouldn’t put the country through impeachment. They should be saying *Trump* shouldn’t put the country through impeachment & should resign instead. Put responsibility for this mess where it belongs
