The fake hate crime guy is bad but if people don’t understand the relative importance of that vs a Coast Guard HQ employee plotting political assassinations of Trump critics, we’re just totally fucked as a nation.
These news companies are currently treating Smollett as a bigger story on their web pages than the Coast Guard officer who plotted assassinations of Trump critics:

Is anybody asking *every Republican* about the guy in coast guard HQ plotting to assassinate Democrats and reporters Donald Trump doesn’t like? Or nah?
Dunno, but many of them — including the president of the United States — routinely use rhetoric that encourages violent behavior like the assassinations he was plotting.

Which is, you know … a lot worse.
Not just a frequent Fox guest — a former member of Trump’s legal team!

This is true. USA Today, among many others, called for Bill Clinton to resign when his transgressions were far smaller than Trump’s — and his approval rating was 20 points higher than Trump’s.
No, I don’t think Trump would resign if newspapers said he should. But this is a case in which silence = acquiescence, and media elites are sending a signal to the public that none of this is really that bad.
This was USA Today’s rationale in calling for Bill Clinton’s resignation. Does anyone want to argue it isn’t ten times more applicable to Trump?
