The white supremacists & misogynists have an entire playbook of how they stage these shitstorms, and credulous TV media amplify their narrative as if the whole thing weren’t planned out. They sought out a woman for this one as a specific undermining strategy.
The thing to watch for, once they have provoked the company into making a faux-martyr, is they’ll engage the entire right wing media machine beginning with the most extreme outlets they want to mainstream & legitimize. Damore elevated an unabashed white supremacist immediately.
All of this, at a company whose CEO was specifically targeted on the basis of race by the same White House Chief Strategist who is now actively radicalizing white supremacists in his overseas training camp. These ostensible egalitarians will say nothing about that violent threat.
A very simple response, @satyanadella, is to call their bluff. Ask the woman who is pretending to be against discrimination why she came to work at a company which systematically under-hired black workers for years. Ask her what she said when *you* were targeted by Steve Bannon.
If you are an underrepresented worker at Microsoft: organize. Amplify each other. Don’t let them use their lies to frame the conversation. Move quickly; these campaigns are designed to cause turmoil, because they gain power as the organization gets more confused & afraid.
