-Hoseok isn't in a pairing but he does have an important role in the story!! 🌟
-Most people do not find their soulmate before age 16 (which is why impressions are a thing)
-Same sex pairings aren't considered abnormal because the universe paired these souls regardless of gender & people just accept that🌟
-taekook & yoonmin, slight namjin, hoseok is not just the token single guy
-tooth-rotting fluff
-tiny slivers of angst
-platonic yoonkook & vmin
-???
-i'm not a real writer y'all, i am SORRY
-it's mostly just cute ok🌟
Taehyung doesn't have time to respond because he starts to feel vibrations under his skin. That means the impression is starting soon.
"I smelled bananas. That's it."
They burst out laughing, leaning on each other for support. Taehyung's parents just shake their heads & go back to their previous activities, glad to see their son unfazed by the odd impression.
Jimin looks like he just had the most genius idea ever.
Taehyung agrees and they move to his bedroom, where the pictures from his soulmate's birthdays are stuffed in a drawer. He isn't exactly careless with them, he just doesn't look at them often.
"A lot of them are tropical. Beachy," Jimin comments, and it's true. There's a photo of palm fronds from their eighth birthday, a flock of seagulls from their sixth.
"I feel like they're the one taking these pictures," Taehyung admits.
Jimin hums and nods, still looking at the photos. "I think it's normal to have premonitions about your soulmate."
"Yoongi, I'm going to puke. Or have a heart attack. Probably both. Seriously."
"Are you aware that you're the most dramatic person on the planet?"
Jungkook glares at his best friend because yes, he knows, but it's December 30th. His impression is due any minute.
"Even if this doesn't help you, you'll still find your soulmate. That's how it works. Try to relax before the impression. Remember I said we could look through the pictures again after?"
"What happened?" Yoongi asked cautiously. Obviously it wasn't good.
"I saw purple rectangles, Yoongi," Jungkook groans, flopping back to lay flat on his bed.
Yoongi sighs. He knows the toll that the unknown is taking on his best friend.
Jungkook shakes his head, squeezing his eyes shut to keep from crying. "You can go, it's fine. We've looked a thousand times. I know I'm being stupid, I just hate waiting& not knowing."
With a small, grateful smile, Jungkook pulls out eleven photos from their spot in the drawer of his nightstand.
"He?"
"I think my soulmate is a man. It's just a feeling, I don't actually have any idea." He tries to laugh, but it comes out a little bitter.
Yoongi smiles softly, knowing that Jungkook remembers it vividly and actually just wants some reassurance that he won't die alone.
"Probably one of those people who end up in your lap if you make them laugh too hard," Jungkook smiles, imagining how Yoongi will be with his soulmate.
"I'll be okay. Thanks for staying with me."
Yoongi responds with a smile, ruffling Jungkook's hair a little before leaving him alone to overanalyze.
"Yoongi, please. Even if you only play ten seconds of it."
"I'll play it for you in the car."
He doesn't get a response. Years of knowing Yoongi means Jungkook knows when to turn on the charm to get what he wants from him.
"Shut up, oh my god," Yoongi's smile betrays his annoyed words as he pulls out his phone to play the recording he has saved.
"Can you play that again?" The blond man asks in an impossibly soft voice.
"It's your song though? You wrote it and rapped on it?" the man questions.
"Is your birthday March 9th?"
Things click in everyone's mind at that moment.
"Oh my god," Yoongi whispers, eyes almost comically wide when he gets the first good look at his soulmate.
"What's your name?" the blond man asks, looking nervous for the first time.
"Min Yoongi."
"Park Jimin. Nice to meet you. Your song has been stuck in my head since you turned 16."
All four of them sit in the same booth. Jungkook offers purple sweater, now known as Taehyung, the inside seat, knowing he'll be heading out as soon as Hoseok replies.
"Hobi's."
"Don't be stupid."
"I'm serious, Kook. Be careful."
Jungkook hums in affirmation. "I'll call."
The universe's hints fly right over his head.
Jungkook feels unexplainably guilty for going out after their talk. Almost guilty enough to stay home. Almost.
"Yoongi found his soulmate today."
"No. His name's Jimin. Super cute. Seemed really nice. Like someone who'll balance Yoongi out nicely."
"Yeah," he admits, unwilling to waste energy on lying now that it isn't necessary. "I'm happy for him though. He played it off, but he was glowing when he sparked with Jimin."
"Maybe they have. Maybe it's someone you're overlooking," Hoseok answers cryptically.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. A little shaky. I'll be fine. I'm sorry." He doesn't really know why he's apologizing, but it feels necessary now.
"I think your voice is the solution," Jungkook blurts out before he can think about what he's saying.
"I—please forget that I'm the most embarrassing person on the planet," Jungkook groans.
"You like my voice?"
By now he's getting off the bus. There's a stop a block from Taehyung's apartment, so he's only a couple of minutes away.
"I'm at your door, can we talk more inside?"
Taehyung opens the door with the usual warm smile, the one that lights some kind of unfamiliar fire in Jungkook's chest.
"Okay, close your eyes."
Jungkook does, only for them to fly open a few seconds later when he feels something cold on his nose.
Jungkook has to laugh, too, and not just because the other man is.
The feeling blindsides him a little bit.
"It's beautiful. In fact, I'm taking a picture of it. For posterity."
"Why're you looking at me like that?"
The way Taehyung stays close even after his face is clean says otherwise.
He was acting like nothing had happened. In reality, nothing /had/ happened. The almost-kiss could be a figment of Jungkook's imagination.
This was a weird conversation, to say the least, but at least things weren't awkward.
For once, he thinks maybe he can live for right now, instead of wondering about the future.
Sparks.
"You said you wouldn't let me fall!"
"You're—you can't be my soulmate."
Taehyung's expression went from one of playful annoyance to absolute sadness in two seconds flat.
"That's not what I mean, Tae, come on," Jungkook tries, but the other man — his soulmate — isn't interested in listening.
Jimin knows Taehyung better than anybody, so it makes sense that Jungkook would trust him to help.
"Give it an hour or two. He's always talking about how he thinks you're a closet romantic, so....make that work for you."
"I love him. I'm in love with him. I was even before now." Jungkook had thought that his friends would be at least a little surprised by the confession, but instead they all nod and smile in understanding.
Jungkook is trembling for fear of further rejection. There are ways to reject soulmate bonds. Every possibility is racing through his mind in the silence
"You are so dumb, you know that?" Taehyung laughs, voice thick with tears.
Jungkook has to laugh despite how angry he is with himself. Being able to make him smile when he's this upset is just such a /Taehyung/ move. It makes his heart ache.
"I might've overreacted a little bit," Taehyung laughs. They finally go inside his apartment instead of hugging and crying in the doorway.
"I'm sure."
"You think you were obvious?"
"Everyone else knew!"
"They were looking, you dork," Taehyung teases.
"Jimin told me that he, Yoongi, and Hoseok talk about us a lot. They were going to get us to touch hands tonight anyway, you just beat them to it," Taehyung explains.
"I can't believe our friends had meetings about us," Jungkook scoffs.
Jungkook inhales so quickly he nearly chokes.
"Don't die on my couch, please. Not when we've only just found each other," Taehyung gasps dramatically.
