Tying immigration reform to "border security" is the hallmark of the anti-immigrant movement. That alone is enough to dismiss this proposal.

"Border security" means border militarization, nothing less.

And merit based immigration means privileged immigration. Young, well to do, English speaking.

That the ultimate cap on immigration remains unchanged means nothing if it'll never be filled.

The entire framing is wrong. I'll wait till final details come out, but it's still the same tropes:

a) immigrants are either "good" or "bad"

b) we don't really need immigration unless it enriches us (the 1%)

c) diversity is never a strength

That it's not seemingly anti-immigrant enough to appease white nationalist organizations like @CIS_org @FAIRImmigration and @numbersUSA doesn't mean it's good policy.

Don't set the bar so low.

This White House cannot be trusted to come up with anything resembling a fair compromise.

I'm not in favor of sitting down at a rigged table.
